sony + - dvd burner not burning dvds?

hows it going i have a dvd burner its a few years old now and when i try to burn a dvd it always comes up with "there has been an error would you like to send this information to microsoft" and then it closes. but it can burn cd's just fine. it just started a couple of days ago. i just reinstalled the OS (xp) and its still doing it. im using my dvd 6 and record now.

any ideas? is it just starting to die?

what is your dvd burner as might be a combo drive as in cd burner & dvd rom drive? check drive manufacturer for firmware update which is like a bios update but for drives.
