Burner & Rom drive won't recognize DVDs

Hi, I have a Nec 1300A and a Pioneer DVD Rom 115 and both of them won't play DVDs but they do recognize CDs,Iv'e checked other posts and they all seem to say 'Clean the lens'still no luck.Also when i try to burn a DVD it keeps asking for a disc when there's one in,yet burning Cds is no problem.........Any ideas

I am having this exact same problem with a Optorite DVD-RW DD1205 drive I've had less then a year.
It will read and burn CD's, but not DVD's, blank or otherwise. Windows does not see anything insterted into the drive, nor does Nero, or Alcohol 120. I am using the same Blank DVD Media and DVD Games I have used previously with no luck.
I thought it might be a driver issue, so I unistalled and reinstalled the drive, then uninstalled and reinstalled windows, still with no luck.
Any suggestions?

I Ive just ordered a new Plextor DVD Burner so i'll let you know what happens when i install it.Bad news that it didn't work after reinstalling windows.Somebody must know whats gone wrong

Iv'e installed the plextor and everythings fine.I think you need to do the same,you could buy one,install it and if it doesn't work then send it back...........Good luck
