Upgraded my Bios and now my CMOS wont keep settings

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I updated my bios (the previous one was overheating my cpu a P4 3.2E Prescott even with a ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU) and now everytime it finishes POST, I get an error stating: CMOS setting wrong
CMOS Date/time not set
F1 setup
F2 load default values

I would go to the BIOS setup and do the necessary configurations then save and exit. When I reboot, I get the same error after POST. It doesn't save the configurations at all.

I do need this bios upgrade as before my CPU was at a temp of 58-60C at idle and with the upgrade now its at a good 47-50C at idle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. Try reflashing again...
2. Check CMOS battery... either get another one (CR2032) or try it with a multimeter, should display around 3v...

Rosco404 - Thanks for replying! I i went ahead and replaced the CMOS battery, but its still doing the same thing. I'll go ahead and reflash the bios. Thanks again...I'll let you know if it solves the problem.

Crap...it was in the processes of reflashing when the power glitched and now it looks like the mb id dead. Looks like i need to get a new bios chip. @#$%@#$%#E$T

if board is still under warranty than replace it as might have problems replacing bios if soldered to the board instead of a socket.

Yeah you could take it back, but dont tell them you were updating the bios just say "no boot" : )

You could try this.... Some boards let you do this if a bad flash was preformed.... Is the floppy drive trying to read when you turn the computer on? If it is then pop in the floppy with the bios image on... It might try and flash itself....

ddp - Yeah I wish the mb was still in warranty, its almost 2yrs old hehe...reason I needed to up the bios its because I upgraded my CPU to a P4 3.2 prescott. As stated from my first post it was running way too hot even with good heatsink/fan and air circulation(3 intake and 3 exhaust fans). The first bios upgrade solved the problem but now the CMOS setting wasnt being saved. It always came up with an error.

So I did alot of reading/searching and instead of forking over another 100 bucks or so, I read I can just buy a replacement bios chip for 20 bucks. My Asus P4P800-VM has a removal bios chip next to the CMOS batt. So I went ahead and ordered one.

Rosco404 - Since my mb had an AMI bios, I read that it will try to reflash the bios from a bad flash through the floppy drive after 2-5 mins. Unfortunately the floppy wasn't trying to be accessed when turned on. I tried to make the floppy force read by pressing CTRL + HOME as read from some website.

No worries though. Hopefully that new bios chip will have my comp back up and running and that CMOS saves my configurations. I hate using this old piece crap heh. Thanks for the help you 2!

Roscoe404 and ddp - Hey guys...just letting you know that I just got my bios chip with the most recent bios (non-beta) for my MB. Intallation was a breeze. My comp is alive again...hehehe. Also that CMOS error I was getting before is fixed. Thanks again you 2!!!!!
