Hello

I just build my new computer and installed xp pro on it and my hard drive shows up as hard drive f and i also installed a 6 in 1 media card reader interal and it shows up as c drive and want to switch that around and i only have one hard drive.

unplug the card reader, reinstall XP pro. Then, after a reboot, plug the card reader back in. I'm not sure, but if you just change the drive letter with disk manager, then all your programs might have a hard time trying to access now non-existent file paths.

ddp, correct me if I'm wrong about this. never tried changing the drive letter of the boot drive.

So i my best bet is to reformat and reinatlling xp without the card reader hooked up??

Yeah, I think so. I've always been taught to leave all usb and peripherals disconnected when I first install an OS; just videocard, CPU, RAM, Hard drive, and DVD or CD drive

trg is correct. Don't have any hardware, except your monitor, keyboard, and mouse, connected to your computer when you install an OS.

Although it is true that you can use Disk Manager to quite easily change the letter designations of your drives, if your main OS doesn't already show as the C: partition, you already have problems.

No you dont. Just keep anything unplugged from the ports and your good to go. No need to unplug anything inside the case.
