Need USB Pen Drive Help!!!

I have a USB key that I run Mozilla, Thunderbird, and a majority of other programs off of.
What I don't like is that my drive letter can constantly change.
What I'd like to do is be able to have it where even if my USB key is removed from the computer it will still show on my computer but if I click on it it would ask me to insert a disk or something similair to that (pretty much like a floppy drive).
Is this possible and how?

Hello, Im not sure if you can have the icon their when the USB pen drive isnt connected, their might be a registry setting some where but *shrugs* god knows!

However if you just want it to keep the drive letter the "same" all the time even when you re-insert it, you can try this it might work?

Connect you USB Pen Drive...
Goto Control Panel....
Goto Administative Tools....
Goto Computer Management...
On the left columb of computer managment click "disk managment"
Now find you USB pen drive on the right side....
Right Click your USB pen drive and select "change drive letters and paths" then click "change"...
You will see a drop down with a list of letters to choose from... Select somthing like "X:/".......

Now when you unplug and plug your USB pen back in it should always be drive "X:/"

That will work although if you install other similar devices it may "move up" the drive letter cause when i installed my ipod it changed my drive letter for my camera meaning i could no longer even acces it, its a pain in the neck especially if your using this pen drive on several machines. The problem being is that you have do this each time if its a different machine
