No sound or video on dvd player!!

I burned a movie that is in .mpg format. I burned it using nero and i made it to a vcd. When i play it on my dvd player nothing shows up and no sound plays even though the clock counter is going. When i play it on the computer it works though. What can i do? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Did nero re-encode the file before it burned it?
