Ok well my computer has one ethernet card and one phone card thing. I was looking at this earlier and the two looked exactly the same size so i was thinking can i take out the phone jack card thing and put in and install a PCI network card. o by the way incase it matters my computer is a dell and its a small footprint, so basically its small and the cd drive is on its side. Because i have had previous problems with having room because of this.

Yeah thats not the problem. The phone "thingy" is your modem. If you dont require you can remove it.

Sure...you can use two ethernet cards. Just you going to have to configure which one for internet access and which one for connection to another pc.:>

did that on a network i setup for a customer. already had an onboard lan that was networked with a cnc machine & installed a wireless net card to network with his office computer & go on the net thru the wireless router. onboard card was assigned an ip address to use the cnc machine & the wireless ip was set to dynamic.

I didt quite catch that, but as im understanding if you dont use a phone line for fax or internet purposes, then there is no ill effects from removing it.

Now if you do need a phone use,...then find a different slot or buy a new mobo with lans already built into. They do sell mobos for under a hundred at www.newegg.com that has to ehternet ports already built into it...so there would no need for a pci lan card.

MrDwag, can't access the internet thru the phone line using the ethernet card unless you have a dsl modem which is external. the telephone modem connectors is 4 pins while the netcard is 8 pin so not compatible.

Ok Im sorry for the confusion I have one ethernet card and one modem card for the phone line. I am already using the ethernet card but I'm not using the modem card. So I want to remove the modem card and put it another ethernet card. I heard this is possible as long as they are both PCI slots. So can I do that so I can have 2 ethernet cards?

cause thats how u network bridge. You have to make your Xbox go thourgh the firewall and you can block people out and boot then ang give people host.
