What does the firmware update for the Liteon LVW5005A do?

My unit seems to work just fine so far and I'm a bit wary about fixing something thats "not broke." Liteon's website lists both a system and drive update, but I wonder if I should install them or save this tasks for later? Just wondering if anyone knows what the updates fix? Thanks in advance.

I've updated the firmware on my year old LVW-5005 and what it accomplished was it increased compatability with some of the newer discs .. specifically the 8x and 16x .. It also made it possible for me to swap unfinalized discs back and forth between my new and old LVW-5005 recorders (they're 10 months apart in mfg dates) If disc compatability is not an issue, I'd leave well enough alone .. also, if you update to a firmware version newer than 0098, you will not be able to defeat Macrovision

Thank you catfreak...I think I'll leave it un-updated for now as my unit appears to be working perfectly. I've also had no problems dubbing my home videos to disc like some others have had probs; from what I gather from some of other forum posts that I've read. Makes me wonder if the real problem is more related to folks trying to update/hack the units and then wonder why it don't work no more. I've been very happy with my 5005 and would probably buy another again in the future. The price is just right for a simple DVD recorder with more than expected features. The only thing that I noticed about dubbing from an analog VHS format is that the verical objects appear somewhat wavy at times; probably related to timing errors associated with tracking deviations on all analog tape formats. Generally, in my line of work Time Base Correctors are used to process the video to clean it up before outputing the signal to whatever the destination source might lead to afterwards. I have a video stabilizer collecting dust perhaps I'll try using that and redub again as I used DVD-RW discs for the dubs.
