Have you tried to run through DVD Shrink twice?? After first round of encoding select File/Open disc image/"name of movie", and re-encode it you should be at 100% compression (not really) but the quality should stay pretty close to original. I set a custom compression ratio for everything except the main movie, and take em as low as they'll go.

@LOCOENG
Why are your running the movie through Shrink twice it does nothing for the movie as it has already been compressed once, and it is unecessary unless you need to Shrink it more because your file is too big.
@hampston4
If you have a compression of 50% the use deep analysis and Smooth to Max Smooth quality enhancements, and make sure you have removed any unecessary audio and subs. Otherwise if you want less compression you will have to either split or use a dual layer disk to backup.

Going along with my friend arniebear, I would also suggest you downloading the Dvd Rebuilder Pro and use the HC Hanks Encoder (it's free and comes with the installer, I personally switch between CCE Basic ($60.00) and HC by Hanks) and run the movie through this prog. I will use shrink, Recode 2, or Dvd Remake to remove credits and anything else, and then run it through Rebuilder...I feel nothing beats Rebuilder with CCE or HC when it comes to big time compression (except DL or splitting the disk ugh!) Just go to dvd-rb.com and download the installer...after set-up is completed then just follow the guide at afterdawn and if you have any questions just ask us...we want to help as much as possible.

Got to agree with my friend Movie Dud on the merits of DVDRB for bigtime compression. Just did Kingdom of Heaven using RB and CCE it came out perfect, could not tell from the original.

I've got into the habit of repeated runs through DVD Shrink when I can't get the compression above 70%. Using with a Max smoothness setting I feel that running it twice still smooths it further.

I doubt if this will do anything, in fact it is probably decreasing quality. It is already compressed and it does not allow you to do anymore quality enhancement once that is done. If you want it smooth then use deep analysis and Max Smooth to Smooth AEC on the first go round. If you really want to get the best product and are willing to spend time, then use DVDRebuilder, it will do the movie with several passes and produce better quality than Shrink.

For some reason they include full length versions of each of the alternates even though only the last few minutes differ.
I used DVD Shrink in the reauthor mode to copy title 1 (believe that was the original). Then added the ending portion if the other titles (last chapter with some additional for some of the alternates). On playback the full movie is played followed by just the alternate endings. No need for any additional compression.

That was an excellent idea kringles, I added the alternate ending movies and used start and end frams to get the last two or three minutes of them.....it work beautifully. Perfect quality, I can not tell a difference in the two........Thanx again
