are you TRYING to burn dvds? well, with both those drives, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO...

obviously, your CD drive can not write onto dvds, because it is a cd-rw drive that only writes to cd-r media :)

the samsung is a dvd-rom, a dvd-rom drive will PLAY dvds, but will not BURN onto them...

a dvd-rom drive is NOT CAPABLE of writing onto a blank dvd...

so, in conclusion, with the hardware you currently have, IF your intention is to BURN DVDS, you will NOT be able to accomplish this goal until you purchase a dvd BURNER drive~

this entire forum here will give you specifics you can choose from, some dvd burners are dual layer, burn both DVD-R media AND DVD+R media, some have different burning speeds, write strategies, firmwares, etc.etc..

hope that helps you out a bit....IF you want to start burning dvds, you need to first get hardware (dvd burner) to begin your journey

there are MANY different makes and models of dvd burners, i buy MINE from newegg.com, they have a vast selection to choose from varying in price~ from $40 to like $100 for the newer Sony drives, i would recommend you getting a Liteon or a BenQ since they are reliable burners and also without the hefty price tag...

in the Liteon variety, i personally use a SOHW-1693S (which is in fact the identical drive as the more expensive Sony dru-800a)

and the Benq, i would suggest their newest one, the 1640~ :) (Sony's newest dru-810a is in fact THIS same Benq at double the price)

so hope that gives you a good start...in terms of burning a 900mb cd, i THINK that would involve using a software program that allows "overburning" ( i THINK Nero has that option, but i have never used it myself, so i am NOT sure about that). i KNOW it's possible, just need the software and the drive to do it...i don't burn cds often and ALL mine are within the 700mb range or smaller, so, i never tried that out~ :)

good luck

doc Ty~
