Hi,

Am after some help with my DVD-RW drive and have searched in vain for an answer!

My DVD writer is writing at a snail's pace, which it would appear is because my DMA settings are not enabled on my Secondary IDE Channel.

Having tried to change the settings, nothing seemed to happen (the drive stayed in PIO mode). I therefore uninstalled the channel and rebooted. Windows then detected the drives on the channel, but when I go through the Device Manager to check if DMA is activated, there is no 'Advanced Settings' option tab on the Properties page.

My write speeds are still insufferably slow, which seems to indicate that DMA hasn't been activated.

The question is: how do I activate the DMA, or how do I at least check to see if they default when the channel is reinstalled? Searching around forums, it seems that this may be a problem with the motherboard, drives or BIOS, but I'm damned if I know what to do

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Cheers
Al
