Hello Rich,

I do not know any other way to rip DVD with Decryptor. If you have a habit to save a link to the site where you have downloaded your program, would you please send me a link to YOUR Blanker?
However, the one I have works fine, I think.
What about 40 sec. loading time with Pirates? What do you think?

Best wishes,
Roma

Roma,

First create a folder on your HDD, follow the below link starting at step #10 and ending with step #19, then the folder you created and pointed to in step #12 and #13 will be input to VOB Blanker. So now you can have access/edit to all the VTS/cells with VOBB, and you can do everything all at once.

Hello Rich,

Thank you for the guide. Very interesting to burn 2 DVDs. I have never tried it yet, though am not sure if I ever will. I believe I can live with good single layer DVDs for now, for in a few years we will have cheap dual layer DVDs or something like holographic discs which will replace them all.

As for the guide, the only difference I have is in DVD Decryptor setting, where I have "All" instead of "Main Movie + IFOs". I do not think it makes a big difference, but I am not sure.

The way I rip is simple. I do not create anything, I simply put my DVD in, and Decryptor created everything for me. I do not bother with names and folders, for the Decryptor does it for me and puts everything in C: or F:. As a result, I have a main folder with the name of the movie as in the original disk, with AUDIO and VIDEO folders in it.
I will check what difference it makes when Decryptor is set to "Main + IFOs". Curious.

I think I will get Star Wars 3 soon, but so far, I do not have it. Sorry, I can not check what you have asked me before. Having played with other Star Wars I believe the main saving will be achieved by using MenuShrink for these movies have a video (not still) menu.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/menush...

I have never tried it though. Have you?

Hi Roma,

In DVD Decrypter, if you select "MODE", and then select "FILE" it will place the entire movie on your HDD as "Video_TS", with the VOB and VTS files just the way VOB Blanker likes them, and then you can do everything in one pass......very simple.

Try it, you have nothing to lose but time.

Yes, I have used MenuShrink many times, it is a very good program, but as a rule it doesn't get rid of as much as VOBB does.

Good luck,

Rich

Hello Rich,
If you read my previous message, it is exactly what I have been doing from the very beginning when I started using Decrypter. Somehow, my Blanker does look for IFO file and does not want to accept the whole folder. BUT it is OK. It does the job anyway, even if I have to manually create a few folders.
I suggested using both, MenuShrink and Blanker, to save more time. Besides, some moving menus annoy me. I want to see how they will look still.
Have fun,

Hello Rich,
Yesterday I played with MenuShrink. I used Star Wars VI. From 600 Mbt went down to about 50. But, as you know, the movie contains a lot of menus. Still pictures were not too good in small chapters' windows. It is a good tool, but not universal. Blanker is good. I want to try DVD Rebuilder.

Hello Rich,
I guess, things are not as easy as they look like. With Star Wars which have a number of angles Blanker gave me a warning from the beginning. Well, I changed "skip" to "process" and continued as usual. I was not sure what to do with the opening text, which has 3 entries. First time I left all of them, thinking that they will no be all together. I was wrong. In Return of the Jedi they were repeated twice. Second time, in The Phantom Menace, I deleted two other entries. No repeats. But a short episode right at the beginning was repeated twice and a sign 1/3 appeared on the screen. I do not know how to deal with these kinds of films; I believe things are not easy with a number of angles. It looks OK on PC though.
Would you share your experience with these films? What do you do?

Hi Roma,

If you are talking about Star Wars III (I did not use VobBlanker on the other episodes), I had no problems with it. I eliminated all the warnings, Ads, and other crap, including the documentary, and striped all the non-english audio, and it all looked great.

Hello Rich,
Unfortunately, I have not laid my hands on Star Wars III yet. However, all of them have 3 angles. What exactly did you do with them? Did you have the warning that Blanker did not like it and marked it with "skip"? Did you have to clean up the Text at the beginning? If you remember details it would save me a lot of time.

Roma,

I did not receive any error messages, and I pretty much use the guide that "travalon" posted in the beginning of this thread (which we hijacked, sorry), including the use of the "START" and "STOP" features. I go through all the PGC's with "Preview/Cut", blank everything I do not want.

HTH,

Rich

Hello to all,
Sorry, it took me so long to write about what I have found playing and backing up Star Wars films. As you probably know all of them have three (3) titles if one analyzes them using DVD Shrink, one for each language (English, French, Spanish). It makes these films so different from others. In fact, when I used Blanker I always received a warning that Blanker did not support it and marked the VOB as "Skip". I simply changed "Skip" into "Process". I believe all films with a few titles have the same principle one should apply if Blanker is to be used. I believe titles are translated into "Angles" if one uses DVD player to watch the film.
To have a clean back up of a DVD I mostly blanked entire VOB, for all extra staff is located in separate VOBs most of the time. Certainly, I used "preview" to double check. Warnings are hidden in VIDEO_TS.VOB. I had to go into Cells. DO NOT Blank the whole VOB, for you will have a warning at the end, or Shrink will not process the final film. In the Cells if you can blank the cell without warning, blank it. If when you try you have a warning, click on "No" and double click on the cell to open it one level deeper. Then blank the entry, click on "Apply" and go to the next one. At the end you will have either ?Blank? or ?Cell? records.
Lucas logo is incorporated into the main VOB containing movie itself. I WOULD ADVISE not to touch VOB. The logo entry is connected to others. If one still wants to get rid of the logo, it will require more time and efforts for there are THREE angles (titles) to clean up. The result could contain some short pauses or short repeats at the beginning, where three titles are located. At the beginning of the forum "Cut" mode was suggested, if one wants to do it. I have never tried it for did not mind to have a logo for the sake of saving time.
Have fun! Merry Christmas!
Roma

Yes, that was discussed, I believe, in the 2nd post of this thread.

I rarely use the "Preview", instead I use the "Prev/Cut".....saves time.

Looks like you are getting a handle on Blanker.

See ya,

This isn't directly related to VobBlanker since I haven't used it in ages (since I got DVDReMake) but for any of the Star Wars movies the best space saver is removing 2/3 of the menus. Each one has 3 different versions of each menu, and in some cases you can save close to 1GB by removing the extras. The tricky part is that you have to edit the IFO in the VTS that contains the menus to replace commands that assign a random number (1-6) to a register that's then used to select which set of menus is played. 1 or 2 will play the first set, 3 or 4 will play the second, and 5 or 6 will play the third. The trick is to decide which menus to keep and set this register to a specific number that will select it. IIRC there are either 3 or 4 different spots in the IFO you'll need to do this.

vurbal,

The first part is possibly do able with VOB, however, not sure if the TRICKY part can be accomplished easily with VOB?

I take it you really like DVDReMake!!! I have been going over the guides for DVDReMake, both here and elsewhere, and I downloaded the DEMO, which I have been playing with, alittle, however, not being able to EXPORT leaves alot to be desired for testing purposes.

Anyway, thanks for the helpful info,

That's a good question. The last time I used VobBlanker I don't think you could even edit menu VOBs so I have no idea what its capabilities are now.

As soon as I got DRM Pro I stopped using any other DVD editing tool. I use it on every DVD I backup to at least get rid of warnings, studio logo screens, and trailers that play at the beginning of the disc. Plus it shows you all the buttons on a menu (even hidden ones) so it's a great tool for finding easter eggs.

Yes, I have used all of those features with the DEMO, and VOB is able to do all of that with the exception of the buttons, which I really like. And yes, I know DVDReMake has many more features than VOB, and most of them seem to be easier to use than VOB, but I am still in the learning process with DVDReMake to be able to make a decision on whether or not to purchase it.

Thanks alot,

Rich

FINDING NEMO (WIDE SCREEN DISC): SIZE - 7836mb
RUN THROUGH VOBBLANKER 4 TIMES WITH DIFFERENT BLANK SPOTS.

THIS WAS THE MOST COMPLICATED MOVIE I HAD AVAILABLE TO ME AND SEEMS TO HAVE EVERYTHING YOU MIGHT COME ACROSS OTHER THAN 1 MOVIE ON 2 DISCS.

I ORIGINALLY STARTED AT THE TOP OF THE TITLE SET BOX IN THE SPLASH SCREEN OF VOB BLANKER & GOING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM OPENED THE VTS_**_*.VOB'S MENUE'S AND BLANKED EACH CELL THAT WASN'T PART OF THE MENUE. THEN OPENED EACH PGC FOR THE SAME VTS_**_*.VOB AND BLANKED THE CELLS THAT WEREN'T PART OF THE MAIN MOVIE. THERE WERE QUITE A FEW CELLS IN BOTH MENUES AND PGC'S THAT WOULDN'T LET ME PREVIEW THEM. SO I BLANKED THEM. WHEN I WAS DONE, THE SIZE WAS AROUND 4000mb. AND NEITHER SHRINK OR NERO WOULD ACCEPT THE VIDEO_TS FOLDER TO ANALYZE. I DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO PLAY IT WITH POWER DVD. THEN I TRIED THE
FOLLOWING 3 METHODS: THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FIRST 2 IS IN THE SECOND ONE, WHEN I WENT INTO
THE CELLS TO BLANK, I KEPT ALL THE END CELLS THAT WERE 8192 BYTES. EVERYTHING ELSE IS THE SAME. AFTER EACH METHOD IS A DESCRIPTION OF HOW THINGS ENDED UP.

I blanked some stuff in the menues that wouldn't let me run it through. not sure what though. sorry for the caps just pulled this off note pad.
