Hello All,

I have got an external USB 2.0 Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-812S, firmware version US05 DVD writer. I had been using it successfully to make copies of DVDs and burning my own DVDs with Clone DVD and Nero on DVD-R media. I was using TDK and Hi-space brand DVD-R media. All was going well but I did not use burn any DVDs for a month and I upgrdaded my Nero version to 6.6.0.5 and since then I have been facing problems to make backups of DVDs, I am using the same brand media but whenever I burn the DVD the tracks that are burnt on the media are not consistent. Usually there is a ring which is visible seperately near the center of the disc which in case of movies is generally the first chapter and the dvd player is unable to play it. Sometimes I am able to see 2 or 3 or more concentric rings on some DVDs. Initially I thought that the media was faulty but I tried with different brands and also tried with Verbatim DVD+RW and the same problem is coming. Can anyone tell me what could be the reason for this? Is it a dirty lens of the DVD burner or is it something to do with the software that I am using. Or could it be some other problem with the DVD burner? How can it be fixed? I have spoilt lots of DVDs trying to figure out what the problem is. Please help.

Thanks a lot in advance...

Cheers!!!

hi, let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

Try and uninstall the latest update for Nero - go back to the previous version and try again.

Hello All,
Thanks for your replies. I will be posting the Nero log file in my next post but I think that will not show anything because the problem is not only with Nero but it also comes with Clone DVD. Does Clone DVD use Nero in the background to burn the DVD? Nero shows the burn process completed successfully but when it does the data verification it shows read errors. Can anyone tell me whether the way the DVD is burned depends on which software is used? Because in my case as I said earlier, near the center of the disc the DVD tracks are not uniform as they should be and you can see a ring which is different from the rest of the tracks and it is formed during the DVD burn process because I have checked before buring the DVD that the ring does not exist. Could it be anything related to the hardware?

Cheers!!!

the reason i want a section of Nero log as it's very representative of a system, most potential problems are shown up in a Nero log

Thanks for your analysis creaky.

So you suggest that I upgrade the firmware and use DVD Shrink and it would be fine. Is there any specific reason why the tracks are not burnt properly near the center of the disc corrupting the first chapter of the movies that I write. Could it be due to a dirty lens of the DVD burner?

Thanks once again.

Cheers!!!

I have noticed one more thing. I run the Nero System Info tool and it shows that the System ASPI installation is corrupt whereas Nero ASPI is installed and working properly. Could this be a reason? How can I correct the System ASPI installation?

Cheers!!!
