i have lots of movies on my computer, most in avi/divx format. i see that there are lots of programs for converting to an ipod-compatible format. i dont mind converting my whole movie collection to one of those formats, however i want to be able to watch the movies at a decent resolution on my computer, but i dont have the hard drive space to keep another copy of each one that is in the ipod's supported resolution. will the ipod automatically play it in its max resolution if i play a movie that has a resolution higher than that?

MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480x480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
-So you are probably going to have to keep a copy of each different version (i.e high res & low res) on your PC.
