I managed to rip a scratched DVD onto my harddrive using Media Doctor. Unluckily DVD Shrink still doesn't want to do it's thing on the ripped DVD.

So I got to thinking maybe it wasn't the scratches, but some sort of security issue, although the movie is about 10 years old (Blanc from Kieslowski). I mean, Media Doctor should deliver files which can be Shrinked right?

When I play the DVD with DVD Shrink I have a lot of green/scrambled footage first and later on the movie plays normal.

I've been looking for a tool which can decrypt DVD's from the harddrive but haven't been able to find one. I know DVD Shrink should be able to do it, but I also read it's decryption features aren't the best in the business. Perhaps the security on this DVD was simply too old for DVD Shrink to be able to handle it?

Can anyone help me out here?

Grtz

Thanks for the suggestion, it's exactly what i was looking for!!!

However, it didn't solve the problem :-(

DVD Shrink keeps telling me it encountered a problem and cannot continue when I click Open Disk:

Failed to read file "C:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.VOB"

Invalid access to memoriy location.

Does this mean I'd better try and get hold of a better copy of this movie or is there still hope?

stan155,

Try ripping it with decrypter to your hard drive, and then have Shrink rip it from your HDD, and decrypter burn it.

Another thought is to re-author it with Shrink, and burn it with Decrypter.

Rich

As I said, I don't have the DVD anymore. I wish I knew about Decrypter before I had to return it.

The reauthoring suggestion I'm certainly gonna try, but please tell me, what is my objective while doing this. Mind you, I've never worked with that option before....

so your ripped the dvd to your hard drive using DVD Shrink. you have all the VOB files from the disc right? why are you clicking open disc then if you have the files on your hard drive. you should be pressing open files. if your still getting that same error then its a hard drive problem. i had the same problem with DVD Shrink. then i started ripping to a secondary hard drive and i never encountered the problem again. chances are you have some bad sectors and your primary hard drive may be failing.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I did click Open Files. I used Media Doctor to rip the DVD onto my harddrive.

If I could have used DVD Shrink to rip the DVD then I wouldn't have this problem now.

stan155,

I don't see where you indicated that you no longer have the original disc? And you said you used Shrink, did it not finish ripping, and Shrink does not decrypt, DVD Decrypter however does?

Regards,

Rich

Do you have the latest Nero. If so you just might have to settle for just the movie only or getting that disc back.

That's weird, you're absolutely right, I was certain I posted it. Anyway, I don't have the DVD anymore. Shrink just didn't want to do anything with it. After 9% it gave me inconsistent errors. It said something about security issues and later on cdc problems.

That's when I used Media Doctor to at least have it on my HD to hopefully fix things later on after returning the DVD.

I read Shrink does decrypt, but not as good as Decrypter does.

I think you might have to re-author those files with Shrink. Here's a guide on how to do it, although this guide is talking about multiple episodes, just do one. Keep in mind you will lose your menues.

I don't know anything about Media Doctor, but there is something really wrong with the file. I would go get that original DVD and run it through Shrink and Decrypter, and hopefully be done with it.

Good luck,

Rich
