Hi everybody. I am having trouble burning dvd's, or cd's for that matter. This is the first time I have tried to burn using this computer. I get as far as the lead-in then a "communication error" shows up in Nero and burning fails. This happens with dvd' or cd's. I have tried to burn with dvddecrypter and stil get an error message after the lead in. I am using Fuji DVD+R. Lite-on SOHW-1633SBGS4. I have updated aspi drivers, no firmware update for the drive is available, I've un/reinstalled the drive all to no avail. I looked on other threads for similiar problems, however did not find any. Does anyone have any suggestions?

is this burner an external if so check your computer to see if it has uab 1 or 2 i have a sohw 1633 internal and have no problems if you have an external drive and do not have usb 2 on your computer this could be the source of your problem also check the lite on web site for firmware updates

BTW, I can't upgrade firmware with BSOS, my computer gives the message that my drive is 1633s BGS4 and BSOS is only for 1633s.

I tried to update firmware. When I execute BSOS it won't open, giving the message that it is only for 1633 not 1633 bsg4. Anyway, I called gateway a few days ago and they sent me a new drive, FREE, a tsh552b. It seems to work well and specs look fairly comparable to the lite-on(??). Thanks for your help guys!!

Just an FYI i had the very same problem as you with the exact same drive. Sometimes when your firmware is behind so far, you have to go back a few firmware revisions and get that to take, then go up to the next one. I went to BSOC and then to BSOS. That error message had me scratching my head, as it says the firmware is only for a specific drive, and then lists your drive exactly. Next time you run in to an old firmware, and the new one doesn't want to take, try going up incrementally. It worked for my Lite-on, and now it has BSOS on it no problems.. It wasn't a problem with the drive, just the firmware revision jump was too much for it to handle.
