Ok, as you're reading through this forum, I can pretty safely assume that you probably own a DVD-R or DVD+RW drive already. I don't. And that poses a problem for us, since I can't really complete any serious DVD-R guides for the site without having one.
The solution: I can pretty easily write few basic DVD->DVD-R guides, but what I need from you guys, are test results and screenshots for these guides.
Please contact us, using the "Feedback" button on top of the page and informing us that you're willing to help us out in this task.
You need to have the latest Nero, DVD-R or DVD+RW drive, enough HDD space and some decent DVD movies that fall into three categories:
-the whole movie is less than 4.36GB of size
-the whole movie is slightly over 4.36GB (like 4.6GB or so..)
-the whole movie is _way_ bigger than 4.36GB
Help us out :-)

Well, I have all that except I use PrimoDVD and InstantDVD.... Will that help?
Also, I might be able to swing a Pioneer A03 drive for you.... Anything to help get some answers to my Splitting to DVD problems for large movies. I haven't tried REMPEG yet, trying to find a guide on how to use it...Have several movies stripped down to about 5.36gb.

Got it, thanks a LOT :-) Just waiting for the blank DVDs to arrive -- should be today -- in order to get the testing up'n'running.
Geez, the A03 really heats badly -- I burned like 6 regular CDRs with it and the bottom of the drive was extremely hot. Gotta get somekinda fan to it or something.

Really... I will have to check my other two.
You might try getting a couple cheap CPU fans to stick to the bottom. That might help with some of the heat. Hope it didn't get damaged in shipping.
I just ordered the DVR-A04...so I will check that one when I get it set up.

My guess is that the drive is not meant to serve as a CD factory ;-) I really burned CD after CD, basically to make some space on my HDD in order to test DVD backups when I get the blank discs.
I'll probably order the TwinTurbo cooler (for 5.25 disk mounts) from 3dcool.com if the heating occurs later as well.

I read that there is a firmware rev that fixes a cooling fan issue on the Pioneer A03/103. The result is overheating. The trouble is I can't verify which rev, since the OEM site I download the firmware from does not list the changes/fixes in each firmware rev. Worth a check. Don't wanna cook that nice new unit...
on the 103 the latest rev is 1.80.

Thanks! I updated to v1.80 with RPC-1 patch, seems to cool down the drive slightly.

Do a search at google for dvd firmware and you get a one particular French website (don't remember the exact address and being too lazy to search it), you find a link for RPC-1 patched v1.80 firmware from there. RPC-1 == region-free when RPC-2 == region locked.

mscogna,
Just incase you weren't aware the Pioneer DVDr-104 (a04) has a built in heat sensitive fan which seems to keep it cool (or it has done so far).
