i just updated to nero recode 2 and now when i recode a dvd9 to fit a 4.7gb dvd 4 i am having some problems. the product after i burn the image to my computer seems like it has 2 sizes. when i click on it, it says its a larger file then when i check its properties and so it wont burn on the 4.7gb dvd. it seems weird. During the burning process it says something about layer 2 or something that i didnt notice in the first nero recode and i usually dont burn a whole dvd just the main movie. someone please help me out if you know what to do. thanks...

Are you using DL (double layer) media by chance? What brand and type of media are you using? Post the last section of your Nero History log located as follows:
Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory
Be sure to edit out your name and serial number 1A.....

CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-710A atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
The DMA for the burner is "off"
Use Device Manager to uninstall the burner.
Restart. DMA should be on now. Check using Device Manager.
Here's some visual help with checking DMA:

It appears that the image file is too large to fit on the disk.
Open Recode. Look to the lower right corner. Is the "Fit to Target" checkbox marked?
What does it say immediately below in the dropdown menu?

Select "Custom" instaed of "DVD-5" and set the size to 4300. This prevents burning to the very outer edge of the disk where the dyes are more suspect.
Also try using DVD Shrink (free) to create the target file.
Post again the last section of your Nero History log omitting your name and serial number from one of these burns if unsuccessful.

DRU710A firmware is old, you need to update to the latest. Go here http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru710adwn.htm#dwns and get "BYX5" to run and update your burner's firmware.
Quote: CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-710A atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
Again, your DRU710A dma is off. You need to turn it back on (or enable back to DMA available). Use the following guide to troubleshoot and reinstall the burner's driver back on.
((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" it's driver ?for Win XP users?))
A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES"
B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
C) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive
E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer
F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner?s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!
NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the ?IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers?
(A) left click on + sign of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
(B) double left click on either Primary or Secondary IDE Channel
(C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
**NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the "Main aka Primary IDE Channel" already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps.
NOTE: To verify your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers with Nero:
Open up "StartSmart", click on "Nero Toolkit", then click on "Nero InfoTool" (InfoTool will run and retrieve all drivers), now click on "Configuration" - this should show you where your DVD Burner/DVD-ROM is installed under either "Primary or Secondary" <--- make good note of that and you're ready to "uninstall" your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers now.

This is way too close to the edge of the media, try to custom and change it to 4360MB or at least 4400MB (at max with high quality media like Yuden, Verbatim or Maxell)

InCD won't do any good to you, especially with your Nero. InCD conflicts with Nero, therefore you're more than likely to produce "coasters" only. Go here http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html and get InCD General Clean Tool to completely wipe out all of it's products from your system. Restart your computer and try to burn it again at 4X with some high quality media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (Made In Japan).
