I've heard of them and was told that you HAD to pay for the programme and that there was no way around it. BUT I have just been given the news bin pro programme with a crack. As yet I havnt installed it, would it work? or will it be a duffer?

Pete.

http://slyck.com/ng.php - Slyck's guide to Newsgroups .. Read that and you'll get an understanding of Newsgrps

Ive personally switched recently from BT to newsgroups/usenet and Im very happy with the switch.. using Astraweb as my primary newsgroup provider cause RCN {my ISP} newgrp service is patheticly slow.. Only paying $10US /month for unlimited downloads, speed limited to 100MBit but upgradable to Unlimited for additional $5US.

I dont even bother with the actual newsgroups themselfs, I use nzbs (explained in the Newsgroup guide provided above). Pretty much saves me the time and effort of scouring thru millions of newsgroup postings to find what Im looking for and the hassle of dealing with headers. For the nzbs, Im using Newzbin.com (pay nzb site but very very good) , NZBworld (membership site) , NZBMonster and binsearch for all my nzbs needs :P

Finding a newsgroup provider is the hard part, you gotta decide what level of service you want - how long does the service keep posts (retention. Hint - the longer the retention the better) , speed(limited vs unlimited metered/unmetered. some providers suchas giganews will start to throttle your acct if you are a heavy user {downloading massively}) how many connections you can make at once to the service's server (1 is good, you generally get max speed, 4 is good for dling larger files such as dvds cause your connecting 4 times, but slows down the overall speed) and last but not least - Cost per month. all the factors mentioned above may or may not play a role in the price per month/yr. Astraweb is $10US for unlimited downloads, speed restricted to 1Mbit down for example, the upgraded acct is $15US for Unlimited Downloads and speed. they also offer Pay-by-Download Plans ; http://www.news.astraweb.com/downloadplans.html

??

I dont understand what the problem is.

there are cracks for newsbin.

all you have to do is pay for the service (newsgroup), get newsbin (or another like it) sign in, get in a room, and download what you want.

Whats so hard about that?

It might seem easy now Logik666 but to start with its pretty daunting, especially if you are going to load up the groups. For a first time user to be confronted with a bundle of rar files and par2 files it might be a bit puzzling. NZB files have made usenet very easy now to navigate. Instead of loading up groups its just loads the articles you want. It saves alot of time.

Here is my usenet essentials...

News Server - Newshosting
News Reader - Newsleecher
Gettning NZB files - Newzbin.com

Newsbin the Usenet/Newsgroup client or newzbin the nzb site? newzbin nzb, I highly doubt you can just find a crack for that site. Its a pay service site.

The problem with newsgroups still for newbies is the headers as well as the overwhelming amount of information that comes flo0ding into your newsgroup client. you dont know howto properly configure your client, you are going get every single group on your provider's server. Plus all the junk headers. Digging thru thousands of headers is a tyme consuming overwhelming task for a newbie. Tis why there's nzbs - you just save the nzb file, it does all the work of collecting the headers/posts for you
