I built myself a kick-ass computer but bought a low end psu and my computer started to humm. I finally decided to upgrade my psu to a really expensive (and guaranteed to be noiseless) one. To my surprise the humm did not go away, I thought there was a temperature monitor in xp but I can't remember where it is. My mobo is an ASUS P5GD-1 with a pentium 4 3.01ghz. The mobo has a overclocking program called ai booster which has a temperature gauge and it show the cpu in the yellow, i think it is running to hot. Any ideas how to cool it down?

If your overclocking your cpu then it's gonna run hotter, so your going to need extra cooling .... just an example http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.php?idx=9&disc= .... you could try adding a couple of extra case fans to aid cooling :)

the overclocking feature doesn't really do to much, it barely speeds it up at all however the cpu temp is 76 degrees celsius

I think P4's run a bit hot anyway , what's the case ventilation like , how many case fans are you using , has it always been running 76c as i think thats near the maximum opereating temp for a P4

no case fans but the psu has a fan, the cpu has it's fan and I have a small oscilating fan blowing directly into the case with the side off. It was still running at 76c with the oscilating fan blowing on it. I have have since turned off the overclocking software so hopefully that makes a differance.

I'm running a P4 at a constant 67c. Haven't run into any problems yet.

I decided to install ASUSPCPROBE and the temperature was pretty steady at 55-58c however my cpu fan(stock) went from 2550rpm to 3800rpm and started to humm, so I'm guessing that I should invest in a better cpu fan.
