I just built a system, and it is completely dead. Nothing powers up. No fans, nothing. It is as if it is unplugged. Is there a way to test the power supply?? Or is it most likely dead. Would it hurt anything to disconnect the ps from all the components, and see if it would turn on, or would attempting to power up the power supply with no load damage it?? This is a Athlon 64 basic build and the PS is a decent 500 Watt model. I have successfully built several systems and have never come across this. Any help would be greatly appereciated

Hi
Check all the connections again that they are in the correct pins, also do you have the 12v four pin plug connected to your motherboard? If you dont have this plug you will need a new ps with one

Yes, it does, and the extra 12v 4 pin plug is connected. Should have mentioned that. It acts like the case switch is bad, but I bypassed it and still no go. Anything else I can try??

Hi
My new comp was the same, i got a guy to look at it and he said the power switch plug wasnt connected right, even though the comp started up a couple of times ok. The only thing i can suggest id try a different psu and check and double check all connections and jumpers

Test the supply in a system that works, youl then know if its the supply thats faulty.
If it does boot another system try again in the new one but only connect the basics ie dont connect the HDD or extra cards, use one memoy stick that you know works - if it doesnt boot then youv prolly got a faulty motherboard.
