I understand this, I am not new to this scene. I was just making a suggestion for another option. When I was a NOOB I read and reread everything I could possibly find, and it was pretty confusing. But for the hell of it I decided to throw it through express just to see if it worked. And I will keep using it untill it doesn't. But I have done the multi-game on one disc, played with elf files, I even wrote my own program to replace the splash on hdloader, since every program out there I found didn't work. So like I said, just another option.

No need to get defensive. I was just making a suggestion. Nobody's saying you don't know your stuff or calling you a noob. I might be an AD addict, but since that ranking is based on number of posts, I could be a windbag for all you know. In my experience working with people new to the PS2 backup scene, DVD Decrypter is the simplest solution. It's very easy to use and highly successful. I still use it to this day. If Nero Express works for you, keep using it. Nero is an excellent piece of software. Cheers!

I can confirm Soul Calibur III works with Swap Magic 3.3
All I used was DVD Decrypter to read than write. Used TY DVD-R 8x and burned at 4X.
That's it.

Anyone else heard about version 3 PS2s not being able to run these games? I have a v3 ps2 with the newest swap magic and i can't get some games to work, notably Burnout revenge, Soul Calibur 3, and God of War. I've tried everything. I think they just don't work with a V3 ps2 or something, the originals work, just not the backups. I don't think it's the Ritek DVD-Rs either, those should also work fine.

Version 3's can read backups fine. I may have said otherwise before, but that's not the case. The reason modders don't work on v.1-3 PS2's is because of the mobo design. V.1-3 PS2's have four mobos stacked on top of each other and screwed together that must be dissambled in order for it to be modded. It takes about three times as long to do as v.4 PS2's and later. Anyway, I wouldn't be so quick to let the Ritek media off the hook. Ritek has been going south for awhile, I'd get some Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's and see if that resolved the issue. Your other option is to try rebuilding.
11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949 With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515 With Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool):
Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis):
http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar
Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT From Paddymail:
Here's how to use it.. it might not work for all games though.
Open the program.
1. Select the Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins drop down list.
2. Select the iso you want to rebuild.
3. Click extract LBA.
4. Click extract file and wait for it to finish.
5. Click rebuild file and wait for it to finish.
6. Click rebuild LBA.
7. Burn the new iso with Nero or DVD Decrypter as usual.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm
106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

That's cool. I started out the same way, but then I stopped using RitekG05 with movies as well. I think Made in Taiwan Sony's are far superior, not to mention TY or Verb's. I've got 200 or so TY's to go through, a 100 TYG02 DVD-R's, and 100 Yudenxxx Sony DVD+R's. Cheers!

I do have a network adapter but no hard drive loader. Is HD Advance a hard drive loader and why do i need a network adapter?

Trying the patched HDloader cd version now but for some reason my swap magic CD doesn't seem to be working. Wanted to try the DVD version of HDloader but i downloaded it and it doesn't extract, i guess i wasn't meant to use this thing :p
My Swap magic DVD loader works, but like i said i can't extract the HDloader DVD version for some reason.
Also trying it with some really old maxtor HD, it's only like 6 gigabytes so it probably won't work anyways. Guess i'll try and work on it more tomorrow.

i already have swap magic 3.6
I got HDloader DVD extracted, i was too tired last night, some sleep did me some good =p. Now to try and find an HD, i guess all mine are used up. I may have to buy another. If i do i'll stick to Maxtor i guess, as it seems to be preferred for the PS2. Does it have to be on that compatibility list for sure?

only a surgestion if you are using a copy of hdl/hda you might want to look into makeing an exploite as you wont need to use sm and a hdl disk
just a ps1/x disk

I think MC Exploit takes too long to start up its easier to just boot it up with Swap magic unless your lasers is dead

Ok i got a maxtor that should be compatible, but there's a lot of files and stuff on it, still about 20gb free. Does it have to be 100% formatted to use in the PS2 or can i use it while there are other files on it?
If the PS2 is automatically going to format the drive i'd like to know before i put it in.
