Man Tokijin you guys must spend like 200$ total on your blank DVD's why don't you just play your games off HD? Faster loading timesn doesn't burn out your laser, doesn't was money on blank media!

You can get HDs for really cheap if you buy them at the right times. HD rebates can be really nice, if you're up for waiting 5 months for them.
Still curious about the HD i have, it's 80gb, but like i said a lot of it is used up already, still has about 20-30 GBs free, so i could still fit some PS2 games on it. The question i have is if PS2 needs the HD to be 100% free or if i can use the one i have without deleting all of the stuff on it. Also i'm curious is the PS2 formats it automatically? That seems unlikely, but i just want to be sure.

I think WinHIIP takes up the whole HDD. Tokijin you can get a 100 GB HDD for about 30$ cheaper than your next set for blank TY's and a network adapter is only 10$ used at EB Games! I got my 200 GB for 50$ and my 80GB for 15$ and I havn't even used all of the CD nor DVD's I bought about 3 months ago! You can also play your PS1 games off a Hard Disk by using USB Advance but I still can't get mine to work.

Seriously? Damn, I'll have to rethink this. Are you sure you can't use it in a computer after using it in a PS2? That doesn't sound quite right.

Err...so you can use it in a PC after using it with a PS2? I could understand if you had to delete all of the ps2 games on it, but it would work again on a PC after reformatting it?

Ok, this thread continues. I put in Swap Magic DVD 3.6, then put in the latest HDloader (also DVD version) and swap magic said "Not a valid PS2 disc". What's the problem? I know it burned correctly. Can't get it to load.

Was still using Ritek. I think i might start using these for backing up stuff instead of burning, success rate seems to be really low lately. Guess i'll buy those other ones you recommended.

That should alleviate the problem. Maybe I'll waste a DVD on the HD DVD Loader and see if I can get it working with my Matrix Infinty. I can always store it on my MC, in case I ever do decide to get a HD and network adapter. I'll report back and see if I can get it to boot.

Dunno. I burned the HD Loader DVD iso to DVD. It didn't even boot in my PS2. I burned it to MIT Sony's, not top notch media, but decent. No dice. I went to download the HD Loader CD iso, but SKS apps is down, and all the torrents I found for the HD Loader version were inactive. So, I dunno what to tell you, find another download or try burning it to better media.
Edit: Okay I found another download of HD Loader 7c fully patched, burned it to DVD, no dice. I got it working here's how. If you open up the HD Loader DVD iso with IsoBuster, you'll notice that it's really just the install script (install), system.cnf and 1.36GB dummy file. I extracted all the files with IsoBuster. I replaced the 1.36GB dummy file with a 10MB dummy file. Then I burned a UDF/ISO CD-ROM with Nero. It loaded up no probs. For some reason I couldn't get the DVD version to work with a straight burn. Using this method, it should work fine.

Weird. Well i guess i could try that. Not exactly sure how to make a 10mb dummy file though.
First thing i burned was the CD version of HDloader, but for some reason my Swap Magic CD wasn't working, i found my old one though and it worked, swap magic worked anyways, not HDloader, it wouldn't boot at the swap magic screen. So i guess i'll have to try your method once i'm sure i know how to do it.

Yeah it's a little easier for me since I have a modchip. If you can get your Swap Magic CD to work, theoretically my method should work.
You need these tools:
1. HD Loader .7c patched iso.
2. Nero: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_applications/n...
3. IsoBuster: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/isobuster.cfm
Rebuilding the iso:
1. Decompress your HD Loader with Winrar.
2. Create a new folder on your desktop. Name it HD Loader.
3. Open Iso Buster.
4. Go to File-->Open Image file. Browse to your HD Loader iso and click it and click open.
5. Hit Ctrl+A to highlight all objects in folder. Click extract objects. Extract them to the HD Loader folder on your desktop.
6. Once that's done, overwrite the DUMMY.BIN file. It's about 1.36GB's. Rename any file that's over 10 MB's DUMMY.BIN. Copy and paste it into the HD Loader folder. When windows asks you to overwrite it, click yes. Then close IsoBuster.
7. Open Nero Burning ROM. (not Start Smart)
8. Select CD from the drop down menu. Select CD-ROM UDF/ISO (the last option).
9. Click New.
10. Browse to your HD Loader folder. Hit Ctrl+A. Right click the files and click copy.
11. Right click in Nero Burning ROM and click paste. The order of the files doesn't matter.
12. Click Burn. Under iso make sure mode 2/XA is selected. Under multisession, make sure no multi session is checked. Under burn, make sure write and finalize disc are checked. Set the write speed to 4x (or the lowest your burner supports) and click burn.
This may seem daunting, but it took me longer to type this than to actually do it. It worked with my Matrix Infinity, it should in theory work with Swap Magic as well.

Thanks for helping again, but i think my PS2 hates me. I followed that guide very carefully, only instead i used MagicISO instead of ISObuster, which i don't have. Anyways, it didn't work, same result. Get the red/blue stripes with the CD version and the error message "Not a valid PS2 disc" with the DVD version. It doesn't look like i'm going to be able to get this to work. I don't think the CD/DVD media i'm using is the problem, the CDs are TDK i think. I'm racking up a lot of coasters still, but i don't think it's the CD/DVDs fault. So i still haven't seen the HDloader screen yet, as HDloader won't load. Like i said, my PS2 hates me. I'm becoming doubtful that i will be able to get this to work.

This thread is getting redundant. I think it is time to move on. I can't believe someone doesn't want to use the hard drive because they like psx games.....The hd doesn't stop you from doing that. And all the newb Q's out there that you could find if you just searched some tutorials. No offense ppl but you make me laugh. Google, Google, then Google some more.

Well 8ert, you can use USBExtreme to play your PSX games off a HD, but that's another to download, plus it requires a use of a USB HD, which is more money. You cannot play PSX games off a HD with HD Advance/HD Loader. Yes I could still play them off disc, but if I do go with the HD, it's all or none, I don't want to use any discs. Baconx has a HD and a chip is very familiar with the whole HD process, yet he has issues getting PSX games to run off a HD. So your post really doesn't add anything to the thread. If the mods want to close it, that's their business.

Even the offical USB eXtreme/USB Advance says it supports PSX games for USB eXtreme: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_usb_extreme_comparison.htm but every time I try with several different games it just shows a big white screen although others have gotten it to work but USB Extreme is NOT worth buying just get a modchip or if your short on cash get Swap Magic and a slide card. Or ihackPS2.org has the cheapest prices I've seen and I have orded from them got to my house quick in about 2 days.

I give up at this unless anyone else has any ideas. I've tried pretty much everything though, it seems like it just wasn't meant to be. HDloader just doesn't want to boot in any form.
