dvd burner cant write- read only????

I tried burning a disk today but nero kept saying burn process failed. then tried to write a cd on the dvd writer as well and an error message popped up saying that it was a READ ONLY drive???
I have burnt many disks before. is there a problem with the drivers perhaps? please help.thx

Could be a Nero problem...

How about if you just send some files to the dvd writer through XP, this will use XP's internal writing feature.... Just put a blank CD or DVD and drag some files onto the dvd writer drive within my computer... See if any errors come up or if it writes ok?

uninstall the drive in device manager than restart windows to let it load it's own driver. also uninstall & re-install your burner program.

Rosco, XP's internal writing feature only writes to CD's, I think.

Try what ddp said or you could try the writer in another machine if you can....
