Hey guys,

I have a mpeg video file 720x480 with 29.97 frames/sec...i want to use dvdlab pro to convert it into a dvd-r...it needs to play on a pal dvd player / tv system.

is it sufficient to set project settings in dvd lab pro to PAL to make the movie playable? Or do i have to recode the entire movie? if so, how to do it? Dvd lab pro does not give any error messages when adding the ntsc movie to the pal project...

Thanks a lot!

Well, well, well! You make a thread & expect an answer in less than 50 minutes?

Let me remind you that we are all here in our free time, we CHOOSE to help. Tell me something, if someone asked you a question & demanded an answer, would you reply? I think not! It takes time to scan all the threads here. Why should anyone answer your question?

Have you actually tried what you are asking?

Yeah, pulsar, i was already wondering what the heck you were talking about...

I'm not demanding anything, i know that everybody is in it for the fun of it...so am I. i would help if i knew an answer to somebody's question, believe me.

and i don't want anybody to try my problem cause then i could just do it myself and better waste my own time than yours. i was merely asking for an answer, to save some troubles...

if that's too much, i'll apologize and get outta here!

If you keep it as NTSC, it should be alright. Most PAL DVD players and TVs can handle it :) I was wondering how to make my DVDs to PAL, but then I realised there's no need.

Oops, my bad! Even so, you have to exercise a bit of patience, sometimes threads can go unanswered for a couple of days. I prefer to try things out for myself before I ask the question. So you say it is a waste of your time, but in reality you will probably learn loads.

Good old trial & error!

Its no need to change to PAL but the resolution of the final DVD will be different, However if you make this change form NTSC to PAL a lot of quality will be lost. What I do, is that i first change the video in the TMPEG, besides it let you play with the output size.

Hey guys,

thx for your ideas...I have build the dvd with dvd lab pro and wanted to compile but i got an error/info message telling me that i was burning an NTSC movie with PAL project settings. didn't go beyond that...

i'm in europe so i was wondering if the standard euro dvd standalone will play the NTSC movie...

@ freeedy: "What I do, is that i first change the video in the TMPEG, besides it let you play with the output size."

what do you change? resolution? frames per sec? that should be 25 for PAL, right? can TMPEG do that?

If you have TMPGEnc then try using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, all you do is select "PAL" from under "DVD", and thats it...

It will convert your .avi file into a PAL MPEG2, and you can do the rest.

I've not figured out how to convert a 4gb MPEG2 file into PAL, so you may have to re-encode the original file into PAL. But if you have your mpeg2 in NTSC then burn it onto DVD and give it a go, other wise you might have to re-encode it with the correct settings.

If anyone knows how to change a MPEG2 once it has been encoded, into PAL then i'll be very much interested as well.

i thought you meant you encoded the file into MPEG2 with NTSC settings, and that you want to change that file that has been encoded, into PAL so you can play it on your standalone player, if thats not the case then never mind...

If it is the case then re-read my post.

OK, what i have is a 850 MB NTSC MPEG file of a TV recording that i have downloaded and so far i have not performed any conversion on it whatsoever...

i need to know if the NTSC mpeg will play on a PAL standalone and right now, i have no way to simply burn and check as my dvd player is not with me.

alternatively, i would then have to convert a mpeg NTSC file to a mpeg PAL file and from what you say, nikibilly, i should rather not do that?

Thanks again for your patience with me, guys...

Using the following guide, I was able to successfully convert an AVI file from PAL to NTSC before transcoding it, authoring and burning:

Lyoooha he has a MPEG2 media file, and not a .avi, seeing as TMPGEnc is much simpler to use, i recommend him using that program.

So, IF you havent already encoded the MPEG2, then its simple, use TMPGEnc (the one i said - you can download a free trial version of the one i mentioned or you can download it from the same site you downloaded your TV drama). Once you have TMPGEnc you simply choose DVD PAL from the wizard and then add the MPEG2 file into the drag and drop area.

It should take 40mins to encode, you then use a dvd authoring tool and then you can burn it onto DVD.

You shouldnt have any problems because TMPGEnc is very simple to use, but if you do have any problems then post back.

Hey Nikibilly,

i got it burned using TMPGEnc but somehow it told me afterwards that the converted movie was 10 minutes shorter than the original one. i scanned through the movie and there was definitively nothing missing or no cut-off. still, i used a different converter and then the movie turned out just as it should.

i guess my problem is solved now so thanks a lot! i was just confused that TMPGEnc change the movie info...

Great job, guys!. thanx again!
