Hi All! I am doing some upgrades to my Dell dimension 3000. I have the 3.0 gig p4 processor,1 gig of pc3200 ddr@400mhz.(upgrading to 2 gigs)For h.d.s I am using a Wd-2000 and Maxtor 160.My optical drives are a pair of N.E.C. 3540a dvd-r/rw's and last are the Sound Blaster "live" 7.1 pci sound card and ATI All-in wonder 128 pci video card.Ok it's time to upgrade the power supply right? I am currently still using the Dell oem 250 watt unit and would like something dependable that will bolt right in. Any suggestions? Thanks! B.W.

I have an ultra 500w with awsome x-connect cables, it lets you choose what cables u want to use and not to use, plus the power supply and the cables glow blue under a uv light!

man with a system like tht you should of just had someone build you one . with dells sometimes it hard to change things out or upgrade so i would check in to it first before ordering parts heres what i have

I would recomend FSP,OCZ modstream series, Seasonic or PCpower & cooling PSU's .....

i recently got an antec 480 watt psu for my build. i've always liked antec. its nothing flashy (no lights or glow in the dark stuff) but it runs perfectly and quietly. the biggest thing i liked about it is that it has the modular cables so i dont have to have a mess of wires in my case.

Thanks to everyone that replied! Being new here I figured I would be avoided like the plague!L.O.L.! Anyway I did some internal investigating and by the dimensions it appears to be a standard ATX psu,to confirm this I checked it against a few old spares I had lying around.So now I must make my descision,hmmm..the XG-Vigor 450 watt unit with variable speed fan looks appealing and it has cool blue lights that will make it appear as though E-T has parked his spacecraft under my desk!Wow,I think I'll dim the lights in here and roll a fatty!(Just kidding.)Has anyone heard of this brand before?I found it at Tiger direct after viewing DVD7227's suggestion.O.B.T.W aabbccdd,if I knew where I was going with all this at the time I bought the Dell,I would have built my own rig! I would suggest using newegg.com for your search for a quality power supply. Follow the reviews and prices for your needs. Anything over 400 will work nicely for you.

yes newegg.com is the way to go ,lots of people have trouble with tigerdirect NOT a great place to buy from

Thanks to all once again,I took the NEWEGG plunge as suggested. The prices and selection are much better than what I've seen from Tiger,I went with the Thermaltake tr2 w0070 430watt unit. The price was right and it had very good reviews (no smoke or flames mentioned) also picked up a blue backlit keyboard, 2gb.of OCZ Performance memory and a pretty cool looking 3 pc. fan set. $325.00 gone and I still feel good! Well,I guess I will let you all know how well it works out after I install it. B.W.

I have that Power Supply and I also have a Saitek Eclipse keyboard as well which is also backlit. Both are great so far. Good luck with your purchases.
