My buddy gave me this DVD of his raft trip to backup. It's one DVD video folder with all the .ifo .vob .bup files in it. I've tried running it through Nero, DVDdecryptor, and Shrink. After about 200MB on the first .vob file it says can't read disk check condition. My friend claims the DVD runs fine all the way through. What else could it be besides a bad disc? Is there a way I can "skip" over the error part and easily make a backup of the rest of the disc?

Well this definately Sounds Like a Bad disk problem...

I would try useing a program Like "BadCopy Pro" to try to recover all of the data off of the DVD, Or try copying the File off of the DVD manualy without useing a Ripping program....

Or Maybe Just Copy the Main Movie Off of the DVD as the Error could be in one of the Non-Essential Files like one of the IFO or BUP files in which case you would have to recreate them by authoring the VOB files to DVD with a DVD authoring Program.......

Also in DVD Dectrptor there is an Option in the Settings called "Ignore Read Errors" which should be enabled which might help you to Rip this DVD to your HD when useing DVD decryptor....
