This is a relatively new problem. Normally I can surf the web, listen to mp3s and pretty much do anything not too intensive and be able to burn consistently at 4x or even 8x without any errors or problems. Usually when burning Ill read movie reviews or check sports scores been doing it for almost a year now without a problem.

Recently I got a problem. When my PC is burning now I can't do anything else, no surfing, no nothing. It doesnt burn at the speed I set it at either anymore. It does burn succesfully though, it just takes a lot longer than it should and I can't do anything else when something is burning.

I've checked for viruses, spyware using all the requisite tools (Ad Aware, SpyBot, up to date Norton) and fixed any of the problems that came up then. I ran Nero InfoTool and I did get an error of ASPI having a corrupt install but I fixed that as well and I still get the slowdown issue.

Does anyone have any ideas or solutions to what could be causing this problem?

I've also tried various medias/discs to see if it was corrupt media and that didnt solve the problem either.

yep thats exactly what the problem was, I actually figured it out on my own after checking in the Device Manager. Turns out Windows turned it off itself after I had put a defective disc in teh drive and it had multiple read errors. Reinstalled the IDE channel and it's all good now :D
