your sony could be one of the Sony DVD players that refuse to play regionfree DVDs. RCE procetecion I think its called, DVDDecrypter shoulda removed it when the DVD was ripped but some Sony's just refuse to play regionfree DVD period. gotta either find a firmware hack or get another player that isnt so damned picky

See above.
The problem is that you are attempting to view a DVD with a European format (PAL) in this player. It will only view NTSC format DVDs. It has nothing to do with regions. Discussion ended, THIS IS THE PROBLEM.

There is no solution other than to use a program to re-encode the DVD itself (from PAL to NTSC).

I've found the best program for changing PAL to NTSC is VobBlanker. It's the only one I found that gives the smooth playback that is usually lost when other programs duplicate frames to change 25fps (PAL) to 29fps (NTSC).

I burned a disc through Nero as well and had this same problem. I feel like such a dumbass now, that was it. I burned it in PAL format. So I guess all will be well if I reburned it NTSC, eh?
