i have been tryin to put my avi files onto dvd-r with my dvd burner i have came across a problem-
1)i had 2 files so i joined them with nandub to get one long one.done ok
2)i then converted the avi 2 mpeg format with win mpeg video converter, done ok
3)then with tmpegencoder from avi to dvd format i got both a wav file and mv2.done ok
ok
4)then with ifoedit i made the vob and ifo structures with dvd author.done ok
5)then i burned it to disc thats where the problem is it is out of sync with the sound and the picture is a bit out of focus although both sound and video were perfect with the original files
can anyone tell me what i'v done wrong
thanks

first off, going from avi to dvd...why would you want to do that...the quality is not there?
as for the problem, it's the audio. it's probably still 44,100 when dvd is 48.

basicly it's for a work mate who wants to see a film they only have a ps2 and that can't play vcd's or anything on it so the only way for them to see it is if it's on DVD format it is a perfect copy in every way so surely it would still be the same on dvd only a different format.the picture is a bit blurry to i might have encoded it bad do you think

A couple of suggestions:
Skip the AVI2MPEG step with WinMPEG -- just use TMPEgenc (you don't want any more steps than are absolutely necessary)
Start TMPEgenc and load the DVD template but make adjustments to those settings. There are good guides to those settings available at:
http://members.tripod.com/homegray/tmpgenc.htm
http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steven.hawkins1/tmpg_tips_tricks/tmpgenc_tips.htm#avireading

My experience with IFO Edit is that it doesn't like WAV audio files. It doesn't like MP2 audio files either but an important tip, that is on at least one of those sites listed above, is to change the MP2 extension to MPA. That step solved one of my problems.

Good luck, Don
