I'm trying to write DVD-Rs with an I/O Magic DVD±R/RW DL Recorder (16x, A07F firmware) using both Pinnacle Studio Quickstart 8.12.7.0 and Nero Vision Express 2. They write without a problem and they play back fine on the computer with PowerDVD but when I try them on my Toshiba portable DVD player (SD-P1600) the player cannot load. I've tried both HP DVD-R 8x and Maxell DVD-R media without luck. I've also tried writing directly to disk and also writing to a image first but without any success. Here are some of my system specifics...

CPU : AMD Athlon 2900+ XP 2000 MHz
Bus Speed : 200 MHz
Motherboard : nVidia-nForce
System : Windows XP Home Edition (5.01.2600 Service Pack 2)
BIOS : Phoenix 6.00 PG
Memory : 1024 MB (10ns)
Sound : NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio
Video : NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

The firmware is A190, not the A07F I mentioned previously.

Thanks.

Have you tried +R media or +R media booktyped to DVD-ROM? Only +R media can be bookyped.

I'm guess the IO Magic burner is a BTC 1016-1116IM with firmware A190. If so, according to CD Freaks BTC has stopped supporting DL burners. I have no idea if your burner's firmware supports bitsetting. I don't think DVD Decrypter supports bitsetting this brand either, but I'm not 100% sure. However, Nero should set the booktype for +R media automatically to DVD-ROM if your burner supports it. The latest version of Nero 6 is 6.6.0.16.

Are you positive about that firmware? There's 3 different manufacturers of the I/O magic 16x internal dvd-rw: Benq/BTC/and EMPA.Hard telling who else also makes those I/O magic 16x's.

The firmware A07F of from the I/O Magic 16x,built by EMPA of Middle East Fizo.

Can you get the MID codes from those HP and TDK blanks?

Use this free handy tool to find those MID codes, and also the correct firmware version:

What programs are you using?

Thanks Laddyboy and Saugmon. The Maxell DVD-Rs are MXL RG02 and the HP DVD-Rs are CMC MAG. AE1 (I understand from reading other posts that CMC media is horrible). I verified that the firmware is DVDRW IDE 16X A190 (ATA). After reading another post I downloaded and tried DVD Decrypter in the ISO Write mode on one of the Maxell disks. That appears to work on the Toshiba stand-alone model. So it looks like I will author and image on Studio or Nero and then burn with DVD Decrypter.

Thanks!

MXL-Rg02 are the japanese,hitachi, maxell dash 4x yellowtops.I've burned a slew of them,just can't find them anymore.

Cmag are on the lower end of the quality spectrum.

Sometimes players can have trouble with a certain burning software. For me,it's the opposite. Nero burns play a lot better than my DVD Decrypter burns. A lot of things can set off some of those picky stand alones.

Good Luck.

I have the same drive the I/O Magic DL (have the external drive). I have had a ton of success using +R's and book typing them to DVD-ROM. I use Shrink and Burn with Nero and well as I have been using Decrypter to do DL burns. For the DL, I have had 100% using Verb's. I had zero luck using TDK. As far as DVD-5 media, I have had good luck using the SONY and FUJI brands made in Japan.

Hey SoxPatFan. Do you happen to known the oem for your IO burner or the firmware version? You can get the firmware version from the DVD Decrypter righthand panel.

I have the IDVD16DL (aka BTC 1016-1116IM) with upgraded firmware A190 (from LiveUpdate).

Has anyone been able to bookset the DVD+R DL's to DVD-ROM? I haven't been able to find a method that works. I tried using DVDBitSet1.8 but that doesn't seem to do anything for DVD+R. It does seem to work for DVD+RW.

I tried both Nero OEM 6.6.0.18 and DVD Decrypter and they both keep the DVD+R DL bookset. CDSpeed can't seem to change it either.

Is this impossible with this drive?
