First off a v2 PS2 has a lot of trouble reading backups anyway, so you may not be doing anything wrong as far as burning. DVD+R's are never better to use with the PS2, always use DVD-R's. Size has nothing do with it, any single layer DVD-R will hold 4.7GB's whether it's a DVD+R or DVD-R. Make sure you are correct about which version PS2 you have: http://mod-chip.com/index-cart-us.php?go=en/select_ps2_main.htm

I'm having problems with my Swapmagic Disc also, it's a version 2.0, it worked fine when i loaded Jak 3, but when i tried to play Sly 2 the swapmagic wouldn't load at all. I have a Slim PSTwo with the Slim Tools installed.
Anyone know why my Swapmagic disc won't load?

i haven't run into anybackup problems with DVD Decrypter and swapmagic 3.6, but what is dvd loader and when would you need it?
some people said to use it when trying to load a game with action replay max codes.

DVD Loader is an extra swap disk that helps SM 2.0 boot problem games. There is no need to use DVD Loader with Swap Magic 3.6. As far as using it with ARMAX, I'm not real sure. I would try the standard method of booting ARMAX with Swap Magic first, then worry about DVD Loader.
76. Q. I have an ARMAX and Swap Magic, is there any way to use cheats with my backups?

Well know either i misunderstood something or it wasn't answered. I don't have a problem loading the GAMES, i have a problem loading the SWAPMAGIC DISC itself. When i put the disc in there it goes to the "Playstation 2" logo intro and then a black screen and nothing....and it just sits there. The PS2 recognizes the disc but the disc won't actually load anything. And i can't even do a TOC refresh since the SM disc won't even load up properly.
I just let my brother play Darkwatch(original game) for about an hour then he tried the SM disc and it worked fine....so does that mean the TOC must be refreshed by playing an actual game for an hour?? O_o

You should only have to make one extra swap if you're using a TOC refresh. The original you use to make the extra swap must be bigger than Swap Magic say around 4.38GB's. Dual Layer games are great for this. It shouldn't need to be in the PS2 for any length of time to make the extra swap, just long enough for the PS2 to read the disc. Is your Swap Magic DVD disk scratched or dirty, what about your laser? Do other games load okay?

Well I let 2 games run through the beginning movie and i even played them for a bit, they were Xenosaga 2, and Dark Alliance 2, but they still wouldn't load the SM.
The disc has very minor scratches on it, you'd have to look for them to see them, and the PS2 was a pre-owned one so it may need cleaning...is the q-tip and rubbing alcohol still a safe way to clean the lense? or is there a better way?

Yep the Q tip method is still the best one as far as I'm concerned. I don't trust lens cleaners one bit. They have the potential to scratch your PS2 lens and make it worse. Here's a Q tip cleaning guide:
65. Q. I suspect my laser could be dirty. Should I use a lens cleaner or open my PS2 and clean the lens with a Q-tip and rubbing Alcohol?
A. Avoid the lens cleaners. They have the potential to scratch the lens making matters worse. The best strategy is to open your PS2 and clean the lens with a Q tip and rubbing Alcohol.

I've got Swap Magic 3.6, and I've never seen a disc so picky about the laser alignment. I'm always getting the DRE from it, but do the adjustment and it works again. I'm not getting the DRE from anything else, and not using Swap Magic that often(BTW it's only 4 days old and the disc is in mint condition). I finally made a tiny little lid behind the fliptop lid so I can adjust the white cog without having to take the top off for the hundredth time.

You may want to try reinstalling the flip top or the white magnet. Make sure your laser is clean try cleaning it with a Q tip and laser using the link I posted earlier in the thread.

Does your v.4 PS2 load original games okay? I have a v.4 PS2 (modded with an MI) and I've been told by modders that around 5 years old is when the mobo starts to go. Mine still works fine, but I wouldn't be surprised if my laser needs replaced in a year or so.
