Just because someone else with the same motherboard and cpu got a certain overclock doesn't mean that you'll get the same. Each cpu is different, some you're lucky to get a 10% OC on, the batch of cpu's that were made the next week might go to 30% OC with no voltage increase and little heat increase. So MAYBE 20% is your max, my 3800+ seems to love overclocking, after letting the Arctic 5 Silver and new heatsink get a few hours under its belt its running at a 20% OC with idle temps of 25C and load of 32-35C, pretty amazing. Next weekend, I'm going to see how high it will go. In many ways your temps will tell you where the safe limit of the OC is.

Read the "how to" guides on the DFI site, though you don't have a DFI board the procedure is the same. First find out how much your RAM will OC then find out the limit of your CPU. Lots of good info and step by steps here.

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9

Also you can try a google search for ASROCK forums, I know there's at least one biggie around, but I can't put my mouse on it right now.

hey man, didnt know that thanks.i though they were all the same.so 20 percent is good huh?i have alittle problem, cant run prime95 says a device driver keeps failing.even at regular clock speeds,a microsoft error comes up saying a device driver fail.what could this be the video card?having alot of problems lately with it overheating.i have the newest nvidia drivers, maybe they are not that good.do you have nvidia,if you do what do you use?have a feeling nvidias 85 driver is no good.thanks for the info, thats why i like this site, you always learn so much here.

AMD64 chips overclock by the RAM/bus speed. Your OC limit MAY not be due to CPU, but to memory. That's why if you follow the DFI guide you'll find out the limit to each component and then be able to figure your max OC. First you LOWER your cpu multiplier, so a 10x to a 6x, so that your cpu won't cause the OC failure, then you keep raising the bus/ram to find the max speed that your RAM can handle at 1:1, this is the first parameter in your OC equation. Now that you know the max the RAM can handle then you figure out how high the cpu can go. Then you fine tune performance with ram timings, bus speed and mulitpliers. Like I said the DFI guides are in depth and give a give step by step methodology.

TWENTY FIVE DEGREES IDLE??????

That can't be any higher than your room temperature!
How do you do it?
I have an Xp 3000+ (at the moment) running with Arctic Acrylic (Ok i know its not quite as good) and an Arctic cooling silent2l heatsink, and yet I only manage as low as 57ºC idle!

My case ventilation is fine, my Mainboard and hard disks run between 29 and 33ºC.

When was the last time you cleaned out the case & HSF for dust, might help.... also it has a 3 speed fan which setting is it on ? your temps seem to be about the same as a stock HSF , found this http://bigbruin.com/reviews/silent2l/ from a quick google and yours should be a fair bit cooler than your temps ...

having a miserable time with this video card, jonni[lol]hey sam got this huge star ice on my cpu.this thing was so hard to put on,but in the end it was all worth it.hey jonni saw that, still thinking if i am brave enough to solder up this motherboard.my eyes arnt as good as they use to be[lol]i fixed the device driver error, for some reason the mobo agp driver needed to be reinstalled.i think this bios sucks, saw acouple of them on the overclock site, look very interesting.especially 1.41c from germany, just afraid its in german.that would suck cause i can read it[lol]almost forgot sam there a 120mm fan in front and back, and theres also a 80mm fan on the side, alot of circulation going on in there.its pretty quit though

The case is prety dust free, having been dusted only a couple of months ago. It isn't very wire free, they're everywhere, but if my mainboard temperature is usually around 30C there can't be too much of a problem there.
The heatsink is always at the high fan speed setting, even though for a 3000+ it recommends medium. My only concern is that my thermal pasting job was a little lousy... trouble is I can't be bothered to do it again, I don't even know where the stuff is. I'm aware that 2500 XPs run very cool and OC well, but what about the 3000?
Besides I'm very reluctant to overclock this since it has very cheap Elixir RAM which I'm told isn't particularly good. Mind you, the stuff in the possible second system I may get may not be much better.

Maybe tidy the wires up as they restrict air flow around the case and try reseating the HSF or get a fan with a higer cfm rating than the current one ...get some AS5 then you can use it on your next build as well , i think the 2500+ were the Thoroughbred core jobs which o.c like crazy your 3000+ & my 2800+ are the 333fsb barton core jobs with the locked 12.5 multi's, so yours should be good for 2.5 +Ghz with goood ddr400 ram, with your current ram maybe 175ish on the fsb with a slight increase in v.core

Glows in u.v ? i've no idea, maybe the sleeving over the cables does, i take it your VGA cooler exhaust's the hot air via the rear of the card & out of a spare slot in the p.c case, yeah that kinda makes sense rather than take the thing apart again .... getting back to your o.c have you tried lowering the multi, using a different divider to increase the FSB ? :)

In order to claim for any sort of damage refund, they want the entire PC to go to Dordrocht. Sounds like a big waste of time to me. I suppose it is lucky, after all, one of my friend's PSUs started emitting sparks and smoke out the rear, and two of the ones at school have gone bang extremely loudly, some blowing an entire row (4) of fuses. However, it's not the first power supply that's gone, the Qtec replaced a Magna power supply that I originally bought to power the X800Pro, which only lasted a week before the number of times it turned itself off became too great.
After those experiences, I'm not buying a cheap PSU again.

So your multiplier is locked on your cpu & the best you can get is a 245 fsb, that's 2695Mhz which ain't to bad ... to losen your ram timings you need to change the values in cas(cl) lantency, TRCD, TRAS, TRP also looking at your bios you have an overclock mode settings are [auto], [cpu, pcie, sync.] & [cpu, pcie, async] which one you using & try enabling the flexibility option .... as for the u.v thing it's kinda pointless as all the power cables are hidden in my rig :)
