Hello!

Recently I have been having problems
extracting the audio from a divx and saving it as a wav to use it with tmpgenc to convert the divx to a vcd.
On virtualdub i open the divx and I select full processing mode and the right conversion but when saving the audio i get:

"The request audio compression is not compatible with the input format"

I know this is a common problem i have read the posts from other people but how couldn't solve this. I don't have ".avi divx" as an option under "Conversion" so maybe i have some codec missing ?
I have installed ac3 audio codec, xvid, divx 3 4 5, and some audio codec from doom9...

Please help!

using virtual dub
-load the file
-under video select direct stream copy
-under audio select full processing mode
-under audio select compression and select no compression (PCM)
-under file select save avi and give it a new name

This should take a couple mins depending on the speed of your computer.

this file is now quite large because the audio compression is gone but this file should work well with TMPGenc to encode to vcd(if you have problems with that then look on this forum there are many threads that talk about TMPGenc I've posted a couple of descriptions on how to use it myself).

If you extract the audio to a wav you get sync problems when putting them back together so i would suggest not doing that if possible. if you need to then TMPGenc has a under the source range settings an option to delay audio or video from each other but a given amount of milliseconds. that's your other option but it could take some time to find the right delay

If you still cant save the avi with uncompressed audio then this solved the problem for another user who couldnt a while back!

In TMPGEnc, click option - environmental settings and click the vfapi plug-in tab. Right click DirectShow Multimedia file reader and raise its priority until its at the top of the list. Now click ok and try and open the file with the compressed audio!
