Hello,
I seem to be having trouble backing up a DVD-R disc. I keep getting "read errors" or "bad sector" errors when I try to copy the disc. I have tried DVD X Rescue and it would go on for hours and stay at the same point (about 2/3 into the dvd).

Is the disc completely ruined or is there software that will fix this?
Im using a Memorex dual-layer 16x burner.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated :-)

Thanks!

1) You may try use IsoBuster for salvaging the disc. Select 'ignore all errors' if need be.

2) Many people have reported problems using Memorex discs.

3) Are you burning beyond 4x? If so, try keep it down to 2-4x.

Good luck!

Is this a copy that you are trying to back up or an origonal?

Sounds like a bad disc from you description though.

If this is a backup disc you are trying to rerip, give us some info on that disc like:

What programs were used on it?
What is the format/brand name/and speed rate of that disc? MID code would be helpful.
How fast was it burned?
Was it burned on your memorex writer or someone elses writer?

The disc is a DVD-R copy that I got in trade, and that I am trying to copy for a friend. It's an inkjet printable dvd-r with a white label.

According to the Nero Disc Info tool I found the following info:

Brand: Philips 4x DVD-R 4.38GB (3.73 used) - Single layer
ID: MUST 001
Date: January 2000
Recorded with DVD-R/RW DX162D-A

I dont see any visible marks or defects on the playing side of the disc...maybe a very light scratch at the most, but I've never had a problem before playing or copying a disc with light markings.

I'm not familiar with phillips printables and that code.Phillips does use some crappy manufacturers with the exception of ricohjpn.

Probably many read errors on that disc.Try like scf_au posted with isobuster. You may even want to try DVD Decrypter using ISO read/ISO write and set it for: Ignore all read errors and rip with brute force.

Printable media give me problems when I try to re-rip them.I use to burn some of my backups at 2.4x. My verbatim and maxell full hub printable have to be burned at 4x,or else I have too many errors to re-rip=CRC errors.

I've also had 3 other pc burners, and my HP 640c lightscribe was very poor.I couldn't even re-rip any of its backups.Glad I didn't back my OS up with that burner.Too many of those little errors from that burner.

I cant seem to find the option to set it to "ignore errors".

Also, is it bad for my writer to keep the extraction going for so long? Im just afraid of burning it out :(
