http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/articles/DVD2DVD-R_4500_more/

I used this guide to rip a DVD. I did everything it said to do except the
"Using - AC3 Decode to convert .ac3 to .wav" and "Using - DVDit! PE". I even changed all the optional settings in ReMPEG2. After ReMPEG2 encoded the movie for 32 hours, I followed this guide: http://www.dvd2dvdr.com/part_iii_Ifo.htm#IfoEdit

I ignored the part about subtitle color because I just want the movie and the English soundtrack.

Then I opened the files I just created into Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 (Data DVD Project) and burnt them to a Memorex DVD-R.

When I play the DVD on my pc, it stutters, when I play it on an Imation portable DVD player it stutters and pauses itself. When I play it on a Phillips DVD player, it will play most of the movie fine, but near the end of the movie it starts to stutter and then freezes completely. I also noticed it has more chapters than the original dvd.

My DVD burner is a Matshita DVD-RAM LF-D311.

Does my DVD burner need to be cleaned? Was the DVD-R bad? I have some TDK DVD-Rs now, but I haven't tried one yet because I want to be sure that I am doing everything else correct. What should I do? Is there a chance I can do everything the same except with a TDK DVD-R and it will work?

Thanks.

life is too short. use the KISS method..."Keep it Simple Stupid! for 1 dvd use dvd decrypter and DVD2one. to split onto 2 dvd's use DVDX Copy. 32 hours...you can duplicate what it took you 32 hours to do in about 1 hr...including the burn time with DVD2one on a 1.5 gig processor..i do it all the time. mike

The time it took to encode would not bother me if the dvd had worked. I think setting the Performance in ReMpeg2 to 'reference DCT' is what made it take so long, but I was just following that guide. Will using DVD2one fix the stuttering problem? When I try playing the .m2v file with Windows Media Player it does not stutter or pause.

you won't need all that "other stuff" that i used to use also...all you do is to rip the dvd (select movie files only)..then open in DVD2one. it doesn't get much easier than that. mike

So are you saying that the stuttering/pauses are caused by using multiple programs? Should I try to use DVD2One next or should I try burning the files I already ripped and encoded again but with a TDK instead of a Memorex?
