Hi. I found a New DVD from Sony that I'm having trouble with. What is the astrix that I see on the the first ten cells (of 63 cells) in the 1st chapter? Should I still leave all but the last cell unchecked? For the first attempt I tried this but in the end DVD Shrink seems to only have 14 minute movie (the end of it actually) even though I can see in the folder I ripped to the 4 main movie files which are all over 1 gigabyte. So I'm stumped. 2nd attempt: I tried ripping with just the first 10 cells with the astrix unchecked but that gave the same result of just the last 14 minutes of the movie. 3rd attempt: I left all the 1st chapter cells checked and that failed (I think Decrpter finished it but DVD Shrink wouldn't accept it giving some error). I'm using DVDD v3.5.1.0 because I can't find v3.5.4.0 (or v4.0). I only tried leaving out a possible bogus VTS file according to what I understood your directions to say in the newbie guide (the last one VTS_15 seemed bogus). I did this on the 1st attempt but got only the same 14 minutes of the movie. Later I tried DVDfab but that ripped a messed up movie. Any ideas?

----------------
Concerning DVD Shrink 3.2 not working for me like 3.1 did: I read on the page link that I copied below here that DVD Shrink can take Much longer than 3.1 because it gives you better quality. My computer is fast and new (VelocityMicro) and I do Spybot, Adaware, (microsoft's automated scanner), and Registry First aid often and recently. It looks like there's been a lot of issues with 3.2 from looking at the webpage linked below. It seems like a pile a bugs to me because it ruined about a dozen DVD+R's for me (only 50 cents a piece) and wasted my time.
I don't know but it seems to be a problem with the 3.2 software. 3.1 works great and fast. Do you use 3.2 without any issues?

If you see asterix on cells this means that DVDD knows what it is doing!! You do not have to do anything. Just rip in File Mode.

The asterix mean that DVDD will not rip the marked cells. That's all...

As for Shrink 3.2, I have no problems with it.

Here is a link to the final version of DVDD:

It is the first download on the page.

The FabDepcrypter Gold Can Rip, But When I Try Make Conpretion With DVD Shrink 3.2 The Program Say (((Failed To Open Filre VTS_01_8.VOB :The System Cannot Find The File Specified.))) When I Rip All Movie With FabDecrypter All Is There But The File VTS_01_08.VOB Its Not There. When I Try Play The File VTS_01_7.VOB With Cyberlink Power DVD Deluxe .. The File VTS_01_7.VOB Make A Little Pause Continues Ans This Never Happend. Later The Play Continued Well. I Know The This Movie Have Fake Cells And I Tell You ... This Is A Declarated War From Sony. He Make All Diferents Each Time Release A New Movie. Can You Make The Fix For All Us ?

You can basically use the guide on this thread or the guides on the Newbie thread for any Sony backup. The only differences will be the cells that you do not rip.

You can send me the IFOs for Geisha like you did with Zathura and I can take a look at them. There is no way for me to make a specific guide without the movie though...I can tell which cells to skip and maybe figure out why there is a bogus VTS_01_8.

I'm also trying Geisha and failing at it. JaguarGod, I did try ripping without unchecking any cells (when some were showing astrix) in my "3rd attempt" (as mentioned in my previous posting). When you say to just rip in File mode without unchecking any cells when DVD Decrypter is showing astrix do you mean I don't have to rip anything in IFO mode? I tried that but it didn't work so maybe you didn't mean that. With the new version of DVD Decrypter there aren't any astrix showing.
So I just tried ripping the DVD with the new version of Decrypter doing IFO and then the rest of the movie in File mode, then I "strip stream", copy the files over into the folder and DVD Shrink then can load up the movie at all. I haven't looked for bogus VTS files as I think you said I didn't need to do that. Yesterday I did notice that using your method for looking for bogus VTS files the last one (the 15th) seems to be possibly "bogus". I did try ripping yesterday leaving it off but that didn't work though maybe I was doing something else differently than today (?).
This has gotten me discouraged. I've spent a good amount of time trying to get this right. If you have any tips I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

@ntblood,

I sent you a PM.

Also, if this version of DVDD does not show the asterix, this means that it does not support the version of ARccOS on the disc. The previous version showing it was probably just that DVDD thought it was an authoring error or something...

I just found the IFOs for the Region 1 Widescreen edition.

From taking a quick glance at them:

-cells 1 thru 61 are not needed
-Strip VobIDs will work perfect for this one!!!!
-VTS_15 is Bogus!!!

Rip in IFO Mode beginning with Cell # 62 (you can choose to begin with Cell 63 if you wish, but I recommend keeping cell 62).

Rip the rest of the disc in File mode (do not forget the main menu) DO NOT RIP VTS_15

Create a new folder to save the IFOEdit work

Now, launch IFOEdit

Click on the "VobExtras" button. It is located on the bottom of your screen.

Make sure that "Strip VobIDs" is checked!!!

Set the destination and click Next...

Keep only VobID 2 (make sure only this is checked!!!) Then click "strip it"

Drag and drop the processed files over the original

Re-open IFOEdit and open VTS_01_0.IFO. Expend "VTS_PGCITI" and select "VTS_PGC_1".

Scroll down to the command table (roughly 1/10 down). Double click on "number of cell commands" and change the value to 0. Save the IFO and exit.

Re-open IFOEdit and open VIDEO_TS.IFO. Press "Get VTS Sectors" then exit the program.

If you ripped cell 62, then you should be finished, so launch DVD Shrink.

If you did not rip Cell 62, process the DVD with FixVTS

This seems more like Generation 1 ARccOS with some type of Chapter skipping or chapter shuffling... All of this is ignored after the rip though so I do not understand.

If this does not work for some reason let me know.

Extra note:

This entire disc seems to have nothing but previews and FBI warnings (VTS_02 & on), so either blank out the rest of the disc with VobBlanker, or read through the Editing Section of the Zorro guide to get an idea of how to change first play and remove the extra garbage on this DVD:

Used instructions to break the Arccos protection. I must be doing something wrong I followed all the instructions, but only the last section of the movie is available to burn.

@warrenbd,

Which movie are you trying to back up?

Make sure that after IFOEdit processes the movie that you drag and drop the new one over the original. Also, make sure that the IFOEdit destination exists. IFOEdit will not create new folders.

I am trying to rip Fun with Dick and Jane . I have been reading this thread about sony movies having some type of file corruption on their dvds and it sounds like the reason I cant burn this movie . I read the mewbie guide on how to rip Sony ARccOS using DVD Decrypter and I have a few questions .

Question #1 how do I know which cell is protected because I know it won't be the same for every movie ?
Question #2 When ripping the main movie , how do I know which is the full screen version and which is the wide screen version ?
Question #3 When trying to rip the rest of the movie For example in the movie stealth it says that Number of Video Title sets in this Dvd is 15 which would mean that VTS 1-15 are being used according the guide I read . And I also know that clicking on VMG_VTS_ATRT and it shows which VTS are being used but I dont understand how to read it .

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

1: There are several ways to decide this. I posted a very long way to figure out the corrupted cells in this thread. Just read back a bit and you will see it.

However, with most movies, it ends up that it is the last cell of the first chapter that is the first good cell and the ones before it are not necessary (look at the length of the cells in terms of time). Remember that the video will be uninterrupted. Any cells with blank cells following it are going to be fake or useless. The last cell of chapter one rule works for most DVDs. In some, it will be the last two cells of chapter one.

Also, note that it is possible to add corruption after the movie finishes, so the final chapter can have corruption, but this is not the case with fun with Dick and Jane.

2: You can check in DVD Decrypter's IFO mode. After the movie loads, go into "stream processing". Then look at the video. It will either be 16:9 or 4:3. 16:9 is the widescreen and 4:3 is the full screen.

3: This is only for using older versions of DVD Decrypter. If you are using version 3.5.4.0, you do not have to worry about this because the software will ignore the fake/extra VTS.

However, in Stealth, there are 16 VTS in the disc. If you look in the IFOs in VMG_VTS_ATRT, you will see that is says "Number of Video Title Sets used 15" and then it lists VTS 1 through 15. This means that VTS 16 is fake.

Edit: BTW, here is a fix I posted for Fun with Dick and Jane. This is just in case you cannot figure it out. There is a ReadMe included with instructions.

That does not seem like an ARccOS related error. Make sure the disc is cleaned before ripping and there are no scratches.

Also, make sure that you are actually trying to rip the movie and not a fake VTS. Some movies have a fake title that is reported as the same size as the main movie and automatically selected in IFO Mode. In this case, you would have to select the main movie manually. You would search the different VTS and then select the PGC 1 of the VTS where it is the main movie.

Which VTS are you ripping that is giving you this error? Also, how many VTS total are on the disc?

JaguarGod,

Thx for your concern!

In the meantime DVDFab (to HD) & DVD Shrink (compression) helped me out.

I still don't understand what went wrong.

Thhx again for showing interest. Keep up the good work!

Jaguar, let me again reiterate what everyone else has said, thank you for the guide.

I recently purchased Ultraviolet and this is the first Sony DVD that I've had trouble with. Until now DVD Decrypter and DVDFab have overcome all the Sony protection that I've encountered. After browsing the net I came across this post and familiarized myself with the technicalities of DVD encryption. The typical ARccOS protection is present in chapter 1 of VTS_02 and has 52 cells. The first 21 are in Chapter 1, cells 22-48 are in subsequently increasing Chapters and finally Chapter 29 contains cells 49-52. Cells 1-20 and 49-52 are all 1 second or less in length, and the first proper data cell is 21. The disc has 17 VTS folders. All but VTS_02 and _16 will decrypt, and _17 is immediately detected as bogus by Decrypter. By applying your guide VTS_02 now decrypts properly but the first 3 minutes of the movie are missing. Could this portion be in another VTS folder and simply out of order?

Now for the big problem. The VTS_16 folder contains 19 Chapters. Chapter 1 has 19 cells. Cell 1 is listed as VOB ID:1 and Cell ID:1. This continues to cell 17 as VOB ID:1 and Cell ID: 17 all in order. Cell 18 and 19 are VOB ID: 1 Cell ID: 2 and VOB ID: 1 Cell ID: 1 respectively.

Chapter 2 is listed, but no cells are within it, thus Chapter 2 is automatically unchecked, but can still be checked. Chapters 3-17 properly contain only one cell each with proper VOB IDs. Chapter 18 again has VOB ID: 1 Cell ID:2 in its single cell 18, and Chapter 19 has VOB ID:1 Cell ID:1 also in its single cell 19. Every cell in this VTS folder has substantial length and size so no individual cell protection is apparent. The complete VTS folder is 495 MB so many of these cells must be required, not to mention the last portion of the movie is obviously missing. The following is how the IFO of VTS_PGC_1 appears:

http://img145.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ifoscreenshotyq1.jpg

So far all I've tried is to remove cells 1, 2 and 3 in various combinations since their IDs are quite odd. Nothing has worked at all thus far.

Your thoughts?

Much appreciated.

Beginning around the time of Final Fantasy Advent Children (Region 2), Sony has released a newer variation of ARccOS. However, do not be fooled. It is exactly the same as the older versions, just the corruption is placed in extra places.

Here is a brief description of the corruption:

-Corruption at the beginning of te movie (Cells 1-20)
-Corruption at the end of the movie (Cells 49-52)
-A completely fake VTS that seems like a real one (VTS_16)
-A bogus VTS (VTS_17)

The movies will always have the first and last corruption, but not always the two middle ones. If the movie has the middle two, the second corruption is always found in the last chapter and sometimes the entire chapter is fake (in that case, you can skip ripping it). The third corruption is always the second to last VTS. You will not rip this VTS because it is 100% fake.

You actually did a very good job spotting the corruption. For the main movie, you would go about it as a normal Sony ARccOS title. You will only rip what is actually on the disc.

Skip all but the last cell of chapter 1 and then skip cells 49 through 52. This means for Ultraviolet you are only ripping cells 21 through 48 in VTS_02.

Now, for the rest of the disc, DO NOT try to rip VTS_16 or VTS_17. There should not be a problem with the DVD. However, to get the best out of the rip, read one of my editing guides. Here is a combo editing guide and generation 2 ARccOS guide (Read the parts about removing VTS and extra titles):

http://rapidshare.de/files/13888439/Legend_of_Zorro.pdf.html

Here is a guide to Underworld Evolution which has the same corruption:

http://rapidshare.de/files/23367146/ARccOS_Guide_UnderEvo.doc.html

I am not sure if I covered the removing the extra VTS (do not have word installed on my PC any more), but that is why I also linked the Zorro guide. I have not been writing guides recently because there is not much more to cover.

When you are finished with the ripping, fix the DVD with IFOEdit and FixVTS and it will be ready to burn.

@ JaguarGod:

I have tried ripping Exorcism of Emily Rose w/ DVD Decrypter and the PSL2 plugin, but I get the error: "Cannot find any protected title in this DVD!" This is a bit odd to me considering everywhere I read that this DVD is ARccOS protected. Also, I have tried ripping it with the latest version (6.0.8.8) of AnyDVD, and burning with CloneDVD2. This resulted in a disc that is un-playable in my compy or in a standalone DVD player. Also, when I just pop in the disc and look at the info that AnyDVD gives me, it does not say that there is any kind of structural protection on there, unlike if I pop in a DVD such as Madagascar for example. (Which, by the way, I was able to rip with AnyDVD and burn with CloneDVD2 without a single problem...weird considering the many posts/threads I have read about people having problems with Madagascar while searching for an answer to my Emily Rose problem) Please take a look at my post :

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/428089

I have now also tried just ripping in .ISO mode with the latest version of DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD running in the background, and I don't get even a single I/O Error or anything. I am going to try burning to crap Memorex DVD+R DL media to see if this works before I waste another Verbatim DL. I need some help with this one please...

There are a few ripguard movies that hide the corruption from DVD Decrypter. No big deal though, the method is the same and you can spot it easily from all the BS cells in the first chapter.

There is a good chance all you have to do is process the movie with FixVTS now. Give it a try first. If it doesn't work, then read the following:

upload the original IFOs. Disable the AnyDVD and then browse the DVD (right click on the DVD drive and select "explore").

Next, do a search and type in ifo.

Now drag and drop all the files somewhere on your HDD. A good spot would be on your desktop in a new folder. Don't name it anything, just keep it "new folder".

Then upload to megaupload or rapidshare.

I can give you directions.
