I am not familiar with the Free DVDFab, but it should create a VIDEO_TS folder. You then need to have DVD Shrink, which is free. Click on "Open Files". Then search your hard drive for the VIDEO_TS folder and import it. Shrink will do a quick Analysis and then take you to the main window.
If Shrink shows that the movie will be compressed, make sure you do a Deep Analysis. This can be done in two ways. One is to just Click the "Analysis" button. The other it to hit backup and then go into "Quality Settings". You will then have to check the "Deep Analysis" option. When you are finished with that, set your target and format and click OK.
My favorite target option with Shrink is "ISO Image and Burn with DVD Decrypter". This is great since Decrypter is Free. Also it uses less resources than most other programs.

Does Shrink give an Error when you try to compress?
Also, remove unwanted Audio streams.

First run it through VobBlanker then.
Does this movie have more than 1 version, i.e. widescreen and full-screen? Make sure you blank out the one you do not want. Then if there are too many previews, also blank those out.
When you process through VobBlanker skip the stuff you are not processing. This means skip the main movie and any features you are keeping. Then after you finish processing, Launch IFOEdit. Load VIDEO_TS.IFO and press "Get VTS Sectors". Doing this will save you about 10 to 15 minutes of processing time.
Also, in VIDEO_TS.VOB there will be about 40 MB of FBI Warnings. It is not much, but will improve compression by upto 1%. So if you have to, blank those as well.

I would not suggest making it into Full-Screen. Widescreen will have the best quality when compressed. Your DVD Player should be able to crop or zoom in to make it full-screen. I would rather go that route.
Also, if you do not like the bars, make sure you set up your DVD Player for 16:9 playback. This will reduce the bars a substantial amount. For instance on a 27" the bars will only be about 3".
To turn a movie into Full-Screen from widescreen, you will have to use an mpeg editor of some sort and crop out the sides. You could also use one that can stretch and crop so you lose less of the video. However, like I said, you will lose a good amount of quality if you crop. It will be noticable on a bigscreen. Also, when you eventually get a widescreen TV, it will stretch it out to the sides and then it will create lots of artifacts and pixelation.
For mpeg editors, I would not know where to look. I use EVE2 and Sony Vegas, but I am not sure how well those handle files from a DVD (never tried that). Also, they will most likely re-encode the video, which is not good and not to mention they are pretty pricey.

Backed up Stealth with no problem. Did it with CloneDVD 2, Main movie, with AnyDVD (Latest) running in backgroud. I also did a Full back-up on a Verb Dual Layer with the same programs.
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

i did not bother to read this thread no more because i figured mine out, but this is how i managed how to do it, using shrink alone with AnyDVD in the background.
run it through shrink with dvd in the reader, then, opened from disc image, once analyzed, i set itto burn, and worked perfect. when i first tried it, it failed every time at 9%, but that was trying it with decrypter and shrink alone....
but it worked perfect..
