Can't play DVDs

I recently received a few DVD movies from India, but I can't seem to play them on my panasonic dvd player. I can, however, play them in my computer's dvd drive. The discs are DVD-R. I have tried to extract the files from the DVD and re-burn them, but that doesn't help. If anyone knows any type of software that can help me extract and burn the files, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you have some PAL formatted disks. I solved this problem by investing $60 in the Philips DVP642 player available at various mass merchandisers. This player not only plays PAL movies on NTSC TV's, but also the DivX files that are now becoming available from various sources!

They probably have a region coding different from your player. Also they are likely in PAL format. I don't know where you live, but if in North America, you may need to convert to NTSC format if your dvd player can't handle both formats.

Just follow the guides for backing up a DVD and you should be OK except for any PAL-NTSC conversion. You can do a search in the forums for the conversion if you need it. There are several threads.
