what is the bitrate of the files you are trying to put on? I.e are they 64,96,128,160,192,224,or 320kbps? or do they say something like 192kbps(VBR)?

It may be worth converting them down slightly so it is possible to fit them onto your gx30.

If you talking about CBR (Constant Bit Rate) then 192 kBps is average but the lowest you should go if your really have to is 128 kBps. Anything below 128 will sound bad and of course 192 and anything above will sound great.

I recommend VBR (Variable Bit Rate) as the way to encode to MP3's as it sounds identical to the original CD and it won't take up much hard disk space.
