I successfully burned this film onto a dual layer disc. Yet, when I play the movie at around the 1 hour and 3 minute mark where Anakin goes to talk to the Chancellor, the pixelation goes bad and the movie skips about 2 minutes. What is wrong? I burned the movie twice and both times the same problem. Is it the movie or the disc? I've burned other films successfully onto a dual layer disc. Did anyone else have any problems? Should I try burning the film with a different method? Thanks.

These are usually signs of Media/burn speed issues. Post your media and burn speed. Then someone will read this and be able to help you more. I have yet to burn anything on DL discs, so I cannot help out here.

What software did you use?

What is the brand and model number of your burner and its firmware revision number. Can be obtained by Nero, DVD Decrypter, DVD Identifier, etc.?

As JaguarGod requested: What media did you use? Use DVD Identifier if the media code is unknown. What burn speed?

If you used Nero post the last section of your NeroHistory file that gegins with your name and program serial number 1A..., omitting your name and serial number before posting.

The dual layer discs that I am using are Memorex DL DVD+R 2.4x, 8.5GB, 240min. The burner I have is a Sony DVD RW DW-Q28A. The Nero I have is Nero Burning Rom 6.0.0.0. The DVD Decrypter is 3.5.4.0. When you use only Decrypter it doesn't use Nero Burning Rom, right? The speed I burnt it at is 2.4. I use only DVD Decrypter for DL burning. Thanks again.

Determine your firmware version number by placing a disk in your burner. On the right side of the DVD Decrypter window your burner model number should be listed followed by a number. That number is your firmware revision number. Compare that version to the latest version at the site below. Download and flash the upgraded firmware if necesssary.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2097

Your burner is a rebadged Liteon SOHW-1693S. You should also be able to flash with the Liteon Firmware located at the site below:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2056

I would probably use the Liteon firmware since it's likely more up to date than that provided by Sony but you could try the latest Sony and if that didn't solve the problem then try the latest Liteon firmware.

Memorex DL media is usually Ritek D01 DL media. The media code can also be found on the right side of the Decrypter window. I have had no problems using this media but it almost always requires the newest firmware.

For maximum compatibility with standalone players +R DL media should be booktyped to DVD-ROM. To do so, download the Booktype Utility from the following site. (You'll need to scroll down the page to locate it).

If you do use Nero in the future be sure to upgrade to version 6.6.0.18.

That's a whole lot crap to in the end realize- The original disc you ripped was either scratched or damaged in some other way on that spot.

I've had the same problem with disc I have "loaned to many many many other people" and then "get back" and the condition makes parts of the movie crap because shrink didn't detect the damage. The amount of damage is where your software thinks it's ok, but the sensitivity of the burning process (Or a shitty burner/media, but both you listed seem fine) amplifies the loss of bit for bit integrity.

Is the disc perfect, or is there the possibility of damage, even beyonf he naked eye, like a tiny water spot that only shows up in the right lighting angle?

Clean the disc, and if it's worth another DL do it again, or just back-up a "friend's" copy because the copy you purchsed (?) is damaged)

Anecdotal, by my definition, it's the way too many people here think. It's also all the evidence you have.

My advice: Wait for PS3.

The problem with the pixellation is right at the layer transition, I know because I burned this movie to a dual layer and that is where I get the blip to the next layer, I used a Ritek which is the same as Memorex. Used a Verbatim and burned again at 2.4x and had no problem. Some standalone players will have problems with dl's.

I agree Arnie. I had problems with Ritek D01s until I upgraded my firmware on my NEC 3540, hence my suggestion to pio to do so for his/her Liteon/Sony.

I have actually seen that problem when playing purchased originals. It is at the layer break, so if it shows up on the originals of some movies it will also be on the backups. I think its a quality control issue with some master copies at the layer break.

There's a new AnyDVD beta out to combat a chapter jump version of structural protection. I wonder if this is what's going on with ST3 in this case?

I don't think the layer break problem would be called a chapter jump. Its just more of a layer break skip and freezes up at time for about 3 to 5 seconds. Then it resumes normal playback. I have seen this on 3 original dvds in the last month or so. StarWars 3 being one of them.

i backed this up with dl verbs and it played great, i never even played the original i just put it up where the rug rats couldnt find it. i would clean the original and try again. DVD Decrypter is the best app for dl media ive tried so far, and that includes Nero.

My Sony drive slowed it's burn rate down automatically when the firmware got outdated and stated having trouble bruning discs. All the discs were fine but it slowed way down to 2x. A firmware upgrade did the trick though back up to full bore.

I like how my drive made sure coasters didn't come out, but adjusted to a speed where it could do it right.
