check ur mobo manual.. i don't know witch mobo u have. if u don't have the manual, then check the model, made, of ur mobo, then search online for the manufacture to find out.

When did the slow down begin??? Has it always been like this ???

What are your system specs ???

Mine are in my signature below....

Most computers will slow down as they get loaded up with junk, that does not get uninstalled. And from remnants of programs that are left behind. That is why I suggested the Registry Mechanic , it will clean up a lot of the leftover junk. By process of elimination , we move on to something else.

3.4 Ghz 800 Mhz P4 / 800 Mhz Intel 915PBL Mobo / 2 GB`s DDR2 Ram / 2 @120 GB SATA 150 HD Raid 0 & a 200 GB SATA 150 HD /250GB Maxtor External Backup / NEC ND-3500AG/HP DVD-RW with Lightscribe/XP Pro SP2/128MB ATI PCI Express Video Card/ENERMAX EG465P 460W

I have had alot of virus's in the past up to know I dunno if that matters but I will try one stick of ram at a time and see if that helps

Ok lets see if I have this correct. The slow down started a year ago, the last time you formatted was 5 months ago. Except for the slow boot, how does your computer work ? Normal ? Runs slower like the Boot ? During the boot does the memory count off ? Is there a splash screen or is it black and white text ?

If the boot is slow, but the computer runs normal. There are a couple of BIOS tweaks that you can try. Depending on the manufacturer of your mobo, it will be named differently. On my Intel board there are 2 items to enable or disable. I am in work , so work with me as I do this from memory. One turns on the Intel Logo Splash screen. You either see the Intel Logo or you do not and you see the memory count off I believe the second one to enable or disable is called silent boot. The end result of turning both of these off [DISABLE] is to make my computer boot faster.

the computer runs normal. Im not quite sure about the memory counting off. There is a splash screen after it shows the windows xp screen. I will try to explain how it loads it shows the blue screen for the bios version # goes to the windows xp screen there is a slight pause than which goes to a black screen for 2seconds than goes to the splash screen and says windows is loading up or whatever it says. I know a couple of months ago I disabled the 3 1/2 floppy drive from loading up due to I never use it. So what is the bios tweek you are talking about? sry to make this huge old paragraph

Now we are on to something!! Reenable the floppy. Your computer is probably looking and looking for the floppy and can not find it. And then it gives up and finally boots.

The tweaks are in the same section where you can choose your Boot Order. floppy then cd-rom then hard drive. Or hd then CD-rom then floppy.

You can enable [turn on] or disable [turn off] the Splash Screen and the second one is the silent boot [on my mobo]. When both are enabled my machine boots in 20 seconds. Since you can see your Splash screen thay are probably already turned on.

I think the solution is reenabling your floppy......

i just re enabled the floopy drive still no change than I went to the HD section in the bios and 32 bit transfer was disabled i wasnt sure if it was supposed to be disabled but i enabled still no change i than disabled the 32 bit transfer because I still am no sure if it is supposed to be enabled or disabled. I have tried everything I can think of with the bios atleast im going to check what kind of ram I got and im going to go see what my mom has and if they are the same speeds i will swap them out real fast and see if that works
