DVD burner exhausted from cheap DVDRs?

My DVD burner used to be able to read from these cheap DVD-Rs that I bought on sale(Dynex brand). They worked fine until my DVD burner couldn't read from them any more. When I pop it in, it just sits there and when I click on the drive it shows nothing on the DVD. Other brands works just fine but in the end I had to plug in my DVD rom drive from my older computer in order to read from my cheap DVDs. My friend thought that cleaning the lens with alcohol will fix the issue but nothing changed. So, do I have to face the fact that my DVD burner can never read from my cheap DVDs any more? Or is there a way to fix this?

I'm not sure of all the different manufacturers for dynex media.They are probably like most other generic name brand media and use many different,low quality manufacturers.

The first thing that pops in my head is maybe the newer batch of dynex has a different MID code than your other dynex discs.This could possibly happen if you: Switched format/spindle-case pack size quantity/and speed rate.You've probably got a different MID code that your firmware isn't programmed to handle or the manufacturer's recomendation won't allow using that media.

Try looking for a firmware update for your DVD-RW drive.That just may take care of that issue.

What house brand media is dynex? Office max/bestbuy/etc?

What's your DVD-RW model # and brand name?

If the drive was bad,you'd be having trouble with any brand name of blank media.

I'm not at my computer right now but the brand came from Best Buy. I don't think I switched packs or anything. It was just out of the blue that the drive started not reading the DVD any mores. All I can remember about my computer right now is that it's a Sony Vaio and I bought it as package so every party is pretty much by Sony ^^ And that it's only about maybe 3 yrs old. I'll try looking for driver updates and thanks for the reply.

Out of the Blue? A lot of burners have trouble with this low quality media,that's why I try to stay away from it.

Sounds like something that low quality media can do to us.It's gotta be the media quality.Those poorer manufacturers have poor quality control and with all the extremes of dvd burning,they just can't cut it.

If you want some quality house brand media,try the 8x media at Office Depot.These are manufactured by Ritek and are very good.They were on sale last week which ended up being 25 cents each.
