I currently have a PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8701 , which i think is a rebadged Benq. The problem is i cant find any firmware updates from the recommended sites.
So my question is 2-part is there any firmware available for said model or is their a program (dvdinfopro) or something like it that might allow me to set a booktype setting like in dvd decrypter

thanks in advance

Do you know the Benq model? If so you can use that firmware. I'll try to look for you as well.

It looks to be a BenQ 1620. That firmware is here:

Have you tried clicking the Benq tab in Decrypter to see if it works for your burner? It does for many rebadged Benqs.

thanks for the response laddy
my dvd burner is http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=1196&Search=Sea... that is a description

i am not sure the exact benq model it could be

But say it is the 1620 like you mentioned... would i be able to just use the firmware upgrade from the benq 1620 for the philips 8701 no problem?

I found another site that says the Philips 8701 is a Benq 1640.

Have you tried clicking on the Benq tab in DVD Decrypter? If that works, then you know for sure it is a rebadged Benq? Otherwise, I don't know. Does DVD Identifier ID it as a Philips 8701 or what?

Open decrypter and click on tools, drive, change book type and then Benq. Then set it for what the book type you want.

This is the screen you need.

Just select the BenQ tab.
