What makes Bittorrent safer than other p2p systems?

i read in the paper today that some guy in wisconsin was sued, his grandson was downloading the movie I ROBOT over the limewire network. i believe it was the MPAA who issued the suit, and they said they would drop they case if he paid them $4,000 or something like that.
now, my question is, why is bittorrent safer than any other p2p system such as limewire? i have never heard of any lawsuits related to people using bittorrent. although, i have heard of lawsuits of people using kazaa and limewire, to name a few. surely bittorrent must have some kind of added protection that these other networks do not have?

There is no proven protection, but only 2 people have been sued using bittorrent compared to 14000 on p2p. I would say that makes you a tad safer for the time being.

so bittorrent is the most popular because its easier to share files? it provides faster download speeds? if its not because its the safest, then why is it the most popular?

Because filesharing has moved on. There are tons more files on BT, and everything is much more organised....ie you can download a full album with both covers @top quality. The main reason p2p still exists is because the people who use it either don't know about bittorrent, or the whole concept just looks baffling/scary. I now only use p2p to leech the odd song. This is definetely the time to catch some files on BT. The RIAA are just beginning to chase up with lawsuits against BT users, but they are a step behind.

if im not mistaken, the bittorrent client Azureus can block ips within any range that you specify, also you can download a plugin called safepeer that will automatically update with a list of blocked ips.
i just installed this plugin on my Azureus client, and it boasts an impressive 2.1 billion blocked ips, claiming them to be 49% of the internet. i know the effectiveness of this block list is debatable, but its much better than nothing right? surely the RIAA or mpaa will have problems tracking users who are actively using block lists such as safepeer.

how about using a private tracker, one that requires registration, making you agree to thier terms of service, stating that you are not part of the mpaa or RIAA or any government organization.
also, would it help if the tracker was located in another country, say either russia or canada or even england? that way the mpaa or RIAA would have no jurisdiction?
