Another DVR-107D that don't work, now there's a surprise. Basically this drive is a very temperamental one with the media it likes. The media that has given me the best results with very few coasters are the Verbatim AZO 8x dvd-r's burnt @ 4x.
Datawrite Titanium (Black Surface) seem to be ok too.
All time worst discs:- Sumvision Premium Printable White Top.
I've had issues with nearly all media but then again only using a 750mhz CPU.
Anyway, my Burner was working perfect until I upgraded the firmware to v1.22 and then it wouldn't burn anything.
Why did I upgrade then ur probably asking urself? The new firmware apparantely had increased compatibility for yep, woohoooooo, my FANTASTIC VERBATIMS. Well i'm not so sure and have been pulling my hair out with this INCOMPATIBLE MEDIA problem. Took a while before the burner started burning CDR's again and no problems with them now.
It could be that it is coincedence that my drive didn't burn diddly squat after firmware upgrade.
I contacted Pioneer and their reply was that The firmware update for the DVR-107D drive has been downloaded and applied over 10,000 times already, and it is unlikely that the firmware is the cause of my problems. Advised to change from drive from slave to master(no difference), and confirm the brand and type of disks I have tried with the drive as the disks I have do not appear to have the correct media ID codes upon them.
Strange that they did before and show up correct on my Lite-On LTC-48161H DVD-Rom. Tried everything I can think, reinstalled Nero, Tried Burning with Windows, Real Player and Eoxio and no software will burn the discs. DMA set to UDMA2 and also tried on another PC with no success.
Didn't notice at the time either that the firmware was from Pioneer Europe and the date is out by a year on the webpage. Successfully said firmware was upgraded. Strange too when I visited the Pioneer UK site for the firmware upgrade that v1.21 was the latest!!!
Gave ur posible fix a whirl TIMEMECHANIC and very well explained and easy to do. Rails were a bit dry and used Silicon Lubricant on them. Certainly moves the Laser carriage better. Unfortunately after I put it back together, still the same and also tried on another PC and same.
I think that i'm going to have to resign to the fact that the laser has failed and that the drive is knackered as even if it is the firmware Pioneer aren't going to admit to it. Would love to set the firmware back but not possible once upgraded.

Would be interesting to know if any one elses drive DVR107D drive or similar has failed too as there is a batch of all the same dated upgrades for various Pioneer DVD burners.

Also if anyone knows of any software that can get more information out of the burner and possibly know any other fixes either hardware or software related. Was also wondering if the Microsoft Critical Updates i did earlier that day could have caused it.
Who knows we might get somewhere and find the true fault with this drive apart from being crap and would so love to go back to Pioneer along with a lot of other people and prove em wrong. LOL

Many Thanks Peeps

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

Sorry this was the only log left as I completely re-installed Nero 6 and ran the 2 cleanups programs too. I was constantly getting Unknown Media and asking me to insert a Disc and this burn I cancelled as same problem. I have been using Verbatim AZO DVD-R 8x perfectly before the errors.

I have since bought a new drive and installed today and still can't Nero to burn LOL

- InCD is Nero's horrid 'packet writing software',

uninstall Nero then uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools, then reinstall Nero WITHOUT

installing InCD

the only thing wrong in the log is the pointless and atrocious InCD software....

Thanks for that again Creaky.

I uninstalled everything again, downloaded all of the cleaners from the Nero site and ran them all, the ran Registry Mechanic.
So far have re-installed and updated up to 6.6.0.16 and burns perfect on the New LG Drive.

I've tried the DVR-107D on another PC and same errors. Won't recognise any data DVD's in windows explorer. So looks like it's fecked. Still Strange that it never burnt after the firmware upgrade!! So Hunting around for hacked firmware for the Pioneer drive as got nothing to lose as just over a year old.

I'll let you guys know how I get on and would be very interested to hear from anyone else that has had the non being able to burn anymore problem since upgrading the pioneer firmware.
