Game fly just sent DQVIII out to me today. I'll let you know when I rip the iso to my HD. The Japanese version is 3.78Gb's. Remember the cutoff to rebuild is around 4.38GB's. If it's under that try a straight burn. I know for a fact that neither of these games is DVD-9 or dual layer.

You're being paranoid. Neither of these games should need rebuilt judging from the iso size. Try a straight burn. If that doesn't work, rebuild. It's that simple.

Yes, that's the real size of DQVIII. I have the iso sitting in front of me. As far as Magna Carta, I dunno. It got horrible reviews, so I'm not gettin that one.

Same here. DQVIII is a must have, Magna Carta, not so much.

Even though reviews for Magna Carta is pretty horrible, it's really up to you to decide if you like it or not when you're actually playing it. You can't depend on someone's view on the game. Personally, I think this is a nice game since the battle system is the first for me. But I am having trouble with the opening movie because it skips a few times. Let me know if anyone is having the same problem with the intro movie. I've burned like 50 ps2 games so far and I've never had any skipping problems until Magna Carta and Dragon Quest VIII. Any feedbacks would be appreciated.

Well you can't rely solely on reviews, but if everybody says a game sucks, it probably does. I wouldn't touch games like 50 cent bulletproof or Matrix Path of Neo with a 10 foot pole. The former is supposed to be especially horrid. I've since seen decent feedback on Magna Carta, so I digress there. Anyway, what kind of DVD-R's are you using? What speed are you burning at?

1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, etc.

Hi again :) I burned Magna Carta the same speed and on the same dvd as Dragon Quest (on the other post) which is a Memorex DVD-R @ 2.4x The game works fine when you're controlling the characters, just during the intro and movies when it freezes and unfreezes.

Ditch the Memorex for something better. Memorex is horrible. Try any of the brands I already mentioned. If all else fails, rebuild.

i used a tdk dvd-r at first for magna carta and produced a laggy game. Then i switched to a Sony dvd+r and the game runs flawlessly. As for Dragon Quest... Well, I burned it six times already and I just gave up on it. I've used Sony, TDK, Ritek, and Taiyo Yuden and DQVIII still lags like crazy. I've even tried rebuilding it too.

Have you tried all three rebuilding methods? I'm playing thru DQVIII right now. Granted I have a modchip, but it plays fine. It doesn't lag at all, but there's is a little bit of flickering with the mountains in the overworld.

11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949
With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515
With Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool):
Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis):
http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar
Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT:
From Anthony 05:
Download it and then follow these instrcutions and it will work.

1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list.
2. Select the iso.
3. Click extract LBA
4. Click extract file
5. Click rebuild file
6. Click rebuild lba.

Make sure you do it in that order.

This worked for me when every other way failed.
It is very easy to do so even the noobies should be able to do it.
Keep in mind im backing up the PAL version, but if your having trouble backing up with NTSC then i dont see a problem trying.
Good luck.
