Hehe,

Use WinRAR, that's your best bet. - www.WinRAR.com

If you break them into volumes of 50mb it should break a 4.7gb file down to about 2-3GB.

Go here to see how to compress large files. I know it is about PS2 games but it works just the same with any large file - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/238208

Enjoy!

Mike,

Does Raring it really compress it down so much?

Why is that most *ahem* downloads are the same size rared as they are in .AVI form?

this is due to the fact that most AVI file are compressed already. The algorithim used by compression tools such as WinZIP and WinRAR really shine when you compress raw files - try comrpessing 20x 100KB text files and compare it with 20x 100KB JPegs.

Besides, sending a 4.7gB file? If you don't have a fast upload, you might have to consider sending it by snail mail ;-)

You know that rare phenonomon when after hours and hours and hours of troubleshooting, things just just magically work and you have no idea why? Just gotta love it! ;-)

Ok, if you use the Internet to transfer files, then you'll be limited to the speed of you internet connection (IMO, 4.7GB is way to big to transfer).

If you were to have your friends computer on the same network - that is, connected to the same router or hub as your computer, then of course, it would be MUCH faster (we're looking at 32Kbps Vs. 12500 Kbps).

Short answer no. In order to burn something (generally speaking), your computer needs direct access to it - that is local access. Your friends computer would be remote, hence, the file(s) still needs to be transferred.

As a side note, it sounds like you are trying to transfer a movie - have you tried compressing it? Most movies are of an acceptable quality when compressed to a CD (700MB as opposed to 4.7GB).

Of course, it still would not be feasible to send a 700MB file to your friend over the Internet.

In public trackers, people have hardly any knowledge on compressing them. If you use private trackers, (which IMHO are the best) then you will see they are compressed as much as they can be.

Not sure about AVI not being to be compressed anymore..
