Hello all,

I'm looking for the good compression of my original cd's to mp3, ogg or acc format.

I'm using dbpoweramp, and i'm wondering what would be the best format for dj stuf. So the sound has to be clear and dynamic.

I an dj using a dj software could he help me out for the audio quality.

Thx

If you want the best quality possible for your audio files, you need to start with a good CD ripper. The best one out there (also free) is called EAC (exact audio copy). The best encoder of mp3s is the LAME encoder. You do not need to use dBPowerAMP, as you can get the LAME DLL for EAC and do everything in EAC. We have a complete guide on how to configure and use EAC/LAME here:

As far as settings go, as you will see by reading the above article, the best setting for mp3s is 192 to 256 kpbs VBR (variable bitrate)

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

But what about mp4, it seems to be also a good codec no ? I tried vbr @ 320 but it wasent the same sound as a mp4 file of the same size file.

yes mp4 and other codecs are better than mp3. the guide above just describes how to get the best sound possible out of your mp3s. But if you're looking for a better codec, such as a lossless codec, I'd recomment FLAC. It is quickly gaining popularity, and some hardware already supports it.

I use Ogg Vorbis format for everything... It sounds great and is smaller than MP3's... Plus it's an open-source format... go for it!!! :)

I use dbpoweramp exclusively. Not only does it have the Lame Encoder, it also has Audio DSP to normalize the sound, fade out slow ending or cut a weak intro, plus a bunch of others. As for the compression, it is standard, but as you increase the quality the less compression you have. I always convert mine at bitrate = 320Kbps & sample rate = 44 Khz. They always come out clean crisp, so long as the source is. The $20 or so fee for the encoder is a bargain in my opinion. Try it for free though, see if it works for ya! As for DJ software, that's a whole nutha enchilada!!
