well here is the problem, I have an external hdd which consists of a samsung 160gb PATA hdd, I got from a friend for free, (exact model SP1614N) inside an external closure Mapower MAP-H31U2G, which I bought. But it wont work. The disk management does not show a letter for the hdd. When i first plugged it into my pc /I have windows xp) it said that driver couldn't be installed or something, I'm nor sure anymore what it said... The instructions said that it should be plug-and-play but NOT!

So the question is what to do??? my computer skills ran out...
thanks in advance (even if I don't get help...)

well, I think that there wasn't anything connected to the jumper thing, So does this mean it is a slave. and no there are no relevant exclamation marks (only in other devices->Multimedia audio controller)... I'd say that the problem is a driver problem since it doesn't show up anywhere and no drivers could be found in the beginning when first plugged (eventhough it should be plugandplay), what say you?

If there is no jumper on there then it could default to slave.... If you have a jumper put on on the hard disc to make it master (usually their is a diagram on the top of the hard disc)

That could be the problem : )

EDIT:

Here is the PDF manual for that Hard Disc (SP1614N) goto page 5 for jumper config : )
